By living these values each and every day we have the opportunity to create a sustainable business that we will be able to pass on to future generations of employees so that they are able to write their own chapter in the history of HEINEKEN. This is a significant responsibility. It is one that we do not take lightly. While the process for brewing beer has changed little since Gerard Adriaan Heineken acquired a small brewery in the heart of Amsterdam in 1864, the world in which we produce, distribute and sell our more than 250 brands has changed beyond all recognition. 2011 was a year that truly highlighted this. It was the year of the ‘Arab Spring’, when communities gained a voice that was so strong it was able to bring about political change. We saw the social media revolution continue to break down barriers to information access, making ‘genuine transparency’ the new political and corporate reality. Once again we witnessed the power and devastation that can be caused by natural disasters. The economic contagion affecting parts of Europe showed little sign of abating. And the challenges of population growth and the environment were on the global agenda of both political and societal leaders. -

Never, in the history of staging live performance and events, has there been such a sudden and total stop to work in Ireland, as happened on the 12th of March 2020. In response to the crisis in the live event industry, created by the Covid-19 pandemic, this working group was elected, to represent the interests and concerns of the individuals and business involved in producing live events and performance. Our critical supports, needed from the State: 1. The Covid Payment, and Wage Subsidy to continue for Event and Arts workers until the mass gathering ban and social distancing are not required for medical safety in Ireland. 2. Business grant support of 20% of 2018 turnover, for SMEs in the Event and Arts sector, to aid with rent and bank loan payments. -

‘Against The Rest’: Fanzines and Alternative Music Cultures in Ireland Ciarán Ryan Department of Media and Communication Studies Mary Immaculate College, University of Limerick This thesis is submitted to the University of Limerick in fulfilment of the requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy Supervisor: Dr Tony Langlois September 2015 Abstract This thesis investigates the role of fanzines in developing music communities in Ireland. It explores these fan-produced texts from the emergence of the first Irish punk fanzines in 1977 to the present, questioning their significance, while critiquing previous studies into fanzine cultures (Duncombe, 2008; Triggs, 2010). It looks at how ‘authenticity’ is a central construct in the design, content, and dissemination of these artefacts, establishing a ‘dominant representational paradigm’ (Hamilton, 1997) for the production and consumption of fanzines. Fanzines are primarily found in alternative music cultures, and this work situates the makers and users as members of local ‘scenes’ (Cohen, 1991; Straw, 1991), and proposes a more fluid or tribal (Maffesoli, 1996; Bennett, 1999) framework, where communities are formed through shared taste (Bourdieu, 1984). Central to this work is the position of capital, particularly Bourdieu’s concepts of cultural capital and social capital. It also examines the role of such capital in developing fan hierarchies, particularly in local music-making activities (Finnegan, 1989). This work crucially positions the fanzine as a fan practice, and the fans that made and consumed these works will be analysed to determine the range of (popular music) fandom (Duffett, 2014) in Irish DIY (do-it-yourself) cultures. Finally, this study explores whether there has been a significant paradigmatic shift in fan media with the emergence of new technologies.
