New for 2018 from The Wordsworth Trust Primary Schools Early Years For the next two terms (Spring and Summer 2018), we are offering free Rucksack of Rhymes sessions for children in preschool groups and reception classes in Cumbria and North Lancashire. These fun, creative sessions last an hour and are a combination of songs, stories, play time and craft activities designed to help children develop their knowledge of nature and life in Cumbria 200 years ago. We have nine themes to choose from: Bugs and Butterflies, Cumbrian Animals, Plants and Flowers, The Weather, Georgian Home Life, Autumn, Winter, All the Colours in the Rainbow and The Three Bears. And finally … We are still offering our ‘Introduction to Romanticism’ sessions as outreach, or as part of an on-site visit. These offer context for the Romantic period: the when, where, why, what and who, followed by the chance to explore one or more of the Romantic poems in the GCSE Anthologies, with a focus on what makes them Romantic, and how they fit within their cluster. This can be Wordsworth’s ‘boat-stealing’, but could equally be Blake’s ‘London’ or Byron’s ‘She walks in beauty’. This session can be extended to look at how one of the more contemporary poems in the cluster links to the Romantic poem.
