Day 3**May 17 Shanghai Singapore (B) After breakfast, we will transfer to Shanghai airport for our flight to Singapore. Upon our arrival at the Singapore Changi International Airport, an Air and Sea Travel representative will escort us to our hotel. Singapore is the world’s only sovereign city-state in Southeast Asia. This Garden City is a great stopover with skyscrapers and subways of a modern, affluent city, a medley of Chinese, Malay, and Indian influences, a tropical climate, tasty food, good shopping and a vibrant night-life scene. Day 4**May 18 Singapore – Sapphire Princess Cruise (B) After breakfast, enjoy our morning before we transfer to Port Singapore to embark on the Sapphire Princess. Over 700 balconies, world-class gourmet dining and dazzling entertainment options are just the beginning of our sea-going adventure. Dance the night away, enjoy casino gaming or relax and rejuvenate body and mind at the Lotus Spa. There’s always something happening on board — from heading to the Princess Theater for a lavish original musical production to enjoying a blockbuster movie poolside under the stars or simply relaxing in a lounge sipping a cocktail where a live band is playing your song. Day 5**May 19 At Sea Today is a Sea Day; we are on our way to Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia. Day 6**May 20 Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia This morning, we will arrive at Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia. Disembark at 12:00 PM and embark at 8:00 PM. Kota Kinabalu City Tour (4 Hours) Kota Kinabalu is located between the South China Sea and the towering ramparts of the Crocker Range. It has been the capital of Malaysia's Sabah State in Northern Borneo since 1963 and occupies the site of Jesselton, the old British colonial capital. (Jesselton was razed during World War II.). The city tour will intro- duce us to this modern Malaysian city. We will pass by the Atkinson Clock Tower, an enduring landmark built in 1902 and the oldest standing structure in the whole of Sabah that survived the air raids and blitz of World War II. We will have photo stops at two memorable structures, the City Mosque and the Tun Mustapha Tower. The 30-story circular glass and steel Tower is one of only three buildings in the world constructed in this "suspended" manner and is the second tallest building on the island. We will visit the magnificent Sabah Museum, a showcase of Sabah's rich cultural heritage and one of the best places to learn about the indigenous culture as well as view weapons and artifacts. The flagship Sabah Museum Complex sits on over 40 acres and is surrounded by lush gardens. It is located at Old Palace Hill (Bukit Istana Lama) and consists of the Main Building, the Science and Technology Center, the Heritage Village, Ethno-Botanical Garden, and the Sabah Islamic Civilization Museum. Its architecture was inspired by traditional island structures. We will also find a number of traditional buildings including the Skull Hut and native houses of varied architectural designs in the Heritage Village. We will complete our Kota Kinabalu experience with a short stop at the Handicraft Market to buy some local souvenirs before returning to the ship. Day 7**May 21 At Sea Today is a Sea Day; we are on our way to Boracay, Philippines. Day 8**May 22 Boracay, Philippines This morning, we will arrive at Boracay, Philippines. Disembark at 7:00 AM and embark at 6:00 PM. We can explore the city on our own or join an optional tour (fee apply). China – Best of Hong Kong (8 Hours) Hong Kong is one of the world’s most cosmopolitan cities where East truly meets West. It is one of the world's most significant financial centers, shopping and food paradise cities. First, we will travel to Victoria Peak, 1,805 feet above sea level. Have your cameras ready as we take in panoramic views of the island, harbor and Kowloon Peninsula. Take time to peruse shops for souvenirs of our peak visit. After lunch, we will enjoy shopping in Stanley Market. The street is a typical example of a traditional old open-air market in Hong Kong and has since become a major tourist attraction. Enjoy free time to browse, shop or just sightsee. After that, we will go to Repulse Bay, a bay in the southern part of Hong Kong Island, located in the Southern District of Hong Kong. It is one of the most expensive residential areas in Hong Kong. Transfer back to the ship and overnight on the ship. Day 12**May 26 Hong Kong, China Today, we can explore the city on our own or join an optional tour (fee apply). The ship will embark at 11:00 PM. Day 13**May 27 At Sea Today is a Sea Day; we are on our way to Taipei, Taiwan. Day 14**May 28 Taipei, Taiwan (L) This morning, we will arrive at Taipei, Taiwan. Disembark at 7:00 AM and embark at 6:00 PM. Taiwan – Taipei Discovery Tour (8 Hours) Taipei is Taiwan's capital city and one of the world's most important commercial centers. Despite its turbulent history, Taiwan today boasts an economy that is the envy of the world. The port of Keelung is your gateway to Taiwan. Visit the bustling city of Taipei and other interesting areas on this fascinating island in the East China Sea. After we arrive at the port of Keelung, we will transfer to Taipei. Our first stop is the National Palace Museum which has one of the world's largest collections of priceless Chinese art treasures. More than 620,000 art objects are currently stored in the museum.

Victor Wong Built in 1903 , Atkinson Clock Tower, built in memory of Francis George Atkinson - the popular first Dis- CONTENTS trict Officer of Jesselton, has the distinction of being the oldest standing structure in the whole of Sabah that survived the destruction of Jesselton town during World War II. Till today, it still serves to keep the city's time. While the original Merbau wood used to build the Clock Tower has been replaced over the ye ars , the building's overall structure has been retained. As late as 1956, the lights of the Clock Tower were used as a navigation aid by local ships coming into port. However, the tower can no longer be seen from the sea due to the tall buildings. The Clock Tower was gazette as a heritage building in 1983 and is protected under the Cultural Heritage (Preservation) Enactment 1997 and the Antiquities and Treasure Trove Enactment 1977. ArchiBLOG On 11th January, a housewife and a social activist filed a joint application at the High Court here for an or- der to stop the proposed construction of a 16-storey hotel-cum-shopping complex in the vicinity of the At- kinson Clock To wer in the heart of the city. They had named City Hall, Central Town and Country Planning Board (CTCPB) and Sabah Housing and Town Development Authority (SHTDA) as the first, second and third respondents respectively. They sought an order of mandamus to restrain SHTDA – whether by itself or by its agent or workmen or partners – from undertaking any works, including earthworks, civil engineer- ing works, construction or any works around or within the perimeter of the Atkinson Clock Tower.

These schools have a total of more than 120,000 preK to 12th grade students. EARCOS also has 179 associate members—textbook and software publishers and distributors, universities, financial planners, architectural firms, insurance companies, youth organizations, etc.—and 36 individual members. Membership in EARCOS is open to elementary and secondary schools in East Asia which offer an educational program using English as the primary lan- guage of instruction, and to other organizations, institutions, and individuals interested in the objectives and purposes of the Council. General Information EARCOS holds one leadership conference every November and one teachers’ conference every March. In addition, EARCOS funds several weekend institutes hosted by member schools throughout East Asia. EARCOS also organizes a meeting for EARCOS heads of schools every April. EARCOS publishes its newsletter, the ET Journal, which is distributed to its members three times a year, and a directory of all of its members. Guests will be greeted by our professional Heritage Guide upon arriving at the Padang Merdeka, the starting point of the Walk. The duration of the Walk, beginning from the Padang Merdeka takes approximately two and a half hours with interesting commentary on the pre-war, post- war and post-independence eras of Kota Kinabalu by the Guide. HERITAGE NEWS –February to July2018 What we spotted of interest on the Sarawak and regional cultural heritage scene in the last six months The "Forgotten Beauty" exhibition by Tan Wei Kheng at the Rainforest Fringe, July 2018 NATION WIDE Heritage management did not feature during the political campaigns during the 14th General Elections of 9 May 2018. After the elections, calls were made to reinstate a ministry of culture, arts and heritage to be separate from the ministry of tourism, but the new Government returned the current structure of Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, with under it, the Department of National Heritage. The Minister is YB Tuan Mahamaddin Bin Ketapi, a newly elected Parti Warisan Sabah (Sabah Heritage Party) MP. The impact of the change of Government on the heritage conservation scene is still to be felt. (The Sarawak State Government remains unchanged, Sarawak being the only Malaysian State which runs its state elections on a different calendar). “Call made for PH to reinstate Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage” - New Straits Times, 19 May 2018 “Keep culture apart from tourism”- The Star, 11 June 2018 Worth noting on the nationwide heritage scene is the new “savemyheritage” website set up by Badan Warisan Malaysia, the national heritage conservation NGO.
