A Place For Us To Dream Musik | Porträt: Placebo zum 20. Von MONA KAMPE »As an artist, you want your venue to be filled with people having a good time. That’s what you live for. It’s the kind of energy that feeds your soul.

PRESS RELEASE First names for Sziget 2014 The Sziget crew is happy to announce the first names confirmed for the music program of this year’s ’Island of Freedom’ taking place between 11-18 August. Queens of the Stone Age, Calvin Harris, Placebo and many more will definitely be at Óbudai Island in the heart of Budapest this summer. In 2014 the ’Island of Freedom’ will take place one week later than previously. Károly Gerendai, founder and main organizer of Sziget Festival, said: „It seems like a good decision that we put the date of Sziget one week later, because now we can announce better names compared to this time last year. To put it simple there is a better chance that bands are on a European tour at this part of the month.” Sziget Festival was once again shortlisted amongst the top ten major European festivals this year at the European Festival Awards. As always, the music line-up will feature acts from various genres, while stars and smaller, but super exciting acts will both be presented at the stages of the event. The first names are… Queens of the Stone Age, the legendary rock band from Palm Desert, California, is known for its riff-oriented, heavy rock music. The cornerstone and charismatic leader of QOTSA is the singer-guitarist, Grammy Award winner, Josh Homme. Their latest album from 2013 ...Like Clockwork has an amazing list of contributors like Joey Castillo (former drummer), Mark Lanegan (regular collaborator and former member) and also Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails). This year they are going to rock Sziget Festival for sure.

Box 1346 Ann Arbor, Ml 48106- 1346 Abstract This dissertation explores the idea of electronica as a descendent of electronic dance music, which, although embodying many related aesthetic qualities, operates within a different set of musical values. This needs to be understood in the context of how dance music's character, form and modes of performance relate to its specific cultural function. Repetitive beats (as espoused by house and techno in particular) comprise part of the cultural experience of rave. In combination with drug technologies and an ethos of collectivity, rave encapsulates a set of political phenomena that are entrenched within the formal and textural priorities of dance music. I discuss how modes of reception are affected by changes in these priorities, and to what extent post-dance music neglects the physicality that defines the political dimension of dance music's relationship to the body.
