Rondeau: Allegro Lenten Concert Series Daniel Tressel, cellist and composer, teaches cello and music composition at Albion College and the Jackson Symphony Orchestra Community Music School. A member of the Accorda Trio and several other chamber ensembles, he has performed throughout the U.S., China, and Europe. He performs in the Jackson Symphony Orchestra and has performed with the Lansing Symphony, West Michigan Symphony, and Reno Philharmonic. During the summers, he frequently performs at summer music festivals including Bay View Music Festival, Pine Mountain Music Festival, Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, and Leelanau Summer Music Festival. Studying cello and music composition at Michigan State University, University of Nevada, and University of Illinois, Daniel, has studied with renowned cellist pedagogues such as Ko Iwasaki, Emilio Colon, Christopher Costanza, and Bradon Vamos. He also studied music composition with Ricardo Lorenz and James Winn. Daniel’s compositions have been performed throughout the U.S., and he has been commissioned by the Verdehr Trio, Jackson Symphony, Livingston Symphony, and Mason Orchestral Society, among others. Acclaimed as “beautifully expressive,” violinist Fangye Sun has concertized in Asia, Europe, and North America, appearing as a soloist with numerous orchestras. A multifaceted performing artist and prize winner, Sun was featured at Pacific Music Festival (Japan), Asian Youth Orchestra (Hong Kong), Pine Mountain Music Festival, Leelanau Summer Music Festival, Chamber Music Festival of Saugatuck, and Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. The renowned musicians with whom she has collaborated include Valery Gergiev, Charles Dutoit, Carl Topilow, Ralph Votapek, Bin Huang, Anthony Elliott, and artists from Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble. A seasoned orchestral musician, Sun has served as guest concertmaster for Shannxi Symphony Orchestra (China), National Repertory Orchestra, Lansing Symphony Orchestra, Jackson Symphony Orchestra, and Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra in addition to being a member of Grand Rapids Symphony Orchestra. Sun is Assistant Professor of Violin at Central Michigan University and Faculty Artist at Bay View Music Festival and previously held a professorship at Xi’an Conservatory of Music. A sought-after teacher, she has presented masterclasses at universities across the U.S. and China, and gave lectures and recitals at International ClarinetFest, the College of Music Society National Conference, and Michigan Music Conference. Her CD “Chinese Fantasies” featuring both traditional and newly commissioned works by Chinese and American composers was released on the Blue Griffin label in 2019. Sun’s students have won prizes at national competitions, and alumni of her studio can be found in professional orchestras and collegiate programs in China, the U.S., Germany, and Singapore. Sun received her M.M. and D.M.A. from Michigan State University under Walter Verdehr’s mentorship. .
