Vs Yorkshire
BRITISH INTER COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP PREMIER DIVISION ESSEX VS YORKSHIRE Essex welcomed Yorkshire to Chelmsford Social Club and ended the weekend well and truly beaten, as only a solid performance by the Ladies ‘A’ team savaged any pride from the weekend. Saturday started with both Essex ‘B’ teams on the wrong end of a drubbing, in fact from the moment that Keith Flint set Yorkshire on their way with a 3-0 win and averaging 31.98 in doing it there was only ever going to be one winner. It was not until the fifteenth set that Hockley’s James Allison (24.78) gave Essex their first point on the board. Cressings Rob Turner (23.74) also managed a win as Yorkshire romped to a 16-2 overnight lead. The Sunday started as the Saturday had finished with Yorkshire in charge. Despite ton plus finishes from both Eddie Gosling and the promoted James Allison, Yorkshire won the first two sets. As if that wasn’t enough Yorkshire then turned the heat up as Harwich’s Scott Lawrie (24.95) was beaten by Scott Waites (34.95) and then Springfield’s James Noone (26.39) was beaten by Garry Thompson (31.86). Essex Ladies ‘A’ finally got the ball rolling as Viv Dundon (22.56) overcame Dee Bateman (22.28) 3-1, Amanda Dodd (16.70) and Sheila Busby (19.05) aided by as maximum followed suit. When Harwich’s Adrian Genery (27.25) won the first match in the second batch of mens ‘A’ games Essex had won four sets on the trot but it didn’t last as Yorkshire continued to punish missed doubles. -
The Slum Child and the Spaceman
GA people revised rrr 17/7/07 3:25 pm Page 22 TheThe slumslum childchild andand thethe spacemanspaceman General aviation is not about planes, it’s about people. It’s about what flying can do to raise people’s sights, expand their horizons and help them achieve their potential. Pilots from vastly different backgrounds are brought together by a love of aviation, and no matter where in the world they come from, they speak the same language. Here, Pat Malone tells the stories of two AOPA members, astronaut Michael Foale and charity fundraiser Gautam Lewis, who have nothing in common but their uncanny determination and the unique and special bond that all GA pilots share enormous amounts of energy here, nought to 17,000 mph in eight minutes. And when you come back you have to get rid of the same energy in about 20 minutes. The heat shield is exposed all the time, and we don’t have a material that can be guaranteed to stay intact. And the lack of an escape system is a problem in the space shuttle.” But for Mike, there could be no other life. He likes spacecraft, aeroplanes and gliders – like his fellow astronauts he flies the supersonic Northrop T38 to keep his reactions in trim. He’s a scuba driver, an accomplished and fanatical windsurfer and a cross-country skier, but what he loves more than anything is a problem, preferably complicated and risky, to which he can apply his extraordinary intellect. Mike Foale is about as close as you can get to the perfect specimen of humanity. -

Musiikkitiede Toukokuu 2013 Pro gradu -tutkielmani aihe on yhteisöllisyyden symbolinen rakentuminen Lemon64- internetsivuston keskusteluforumilla. Lemon64-internetsivusto on kohdistettu Commodore 64 -kotitietokoneesta kiinnostuneille henkilöille. Analysoin Lemon64- internetsivuston keskusteluforumin musiikkiaiheisista viestiketjuista löytyviä symboleja. Symboleja ja niiden käyttötapoja analysoimalla selvitän, miten Commodore 64 -kulttuurissa syntyy yhteisöllisyyttä. Analyysissäni sovellan verkkoyhteisöjen tutkimusta ja sosiologista teoriaa yhteisöjen symbolisesta rakentumisesta. Teoreettisen viitekehykseni mukaan yhteisöt rakentuvat yhteisön jäsenten käyttämien symbolien avulla. Tutkielmassa analysoin sanoista muodostettuja symboleja.
