The Waterhouse bar & terrace has taken its name from the hotel’s very own architect the famous Victorian Alfred Waterhouse. Alfred Waterhouse was born in Liverpool in 1830 to a Quaker family. His brother went on to found PriceWaterhouseCoopers. His architectural style was, for the era, unique as he was renowned for spiral rooftops and favoured Redstone and terracotta rather than the then classic Victorian white washed rendered buildings seen around Brighton today. The Manchester town hall and Strangeways prison are just a couple of his unique works. Queen Victoria herself worked closely with Alfred on the plans for his design of the Natural History Museum. Waterhouse designed the Metropole hotel and doors first opened in 1890 with local guests as well as those arriving by special luxury trains from London Victoria heralded in by our very own band. The hotel when opened had Turkish baths, perfumery and later a hotel cinema and casino; many of these original opening scenes are located around the hotel public areas today. The Waterhouse bar & terrace opened its doors May 2012; we aim to ensure this stunning destination bar & terrace offer you the very best in hospitality combined with a great dining and drink experience. Enjoy delights from signature cocktails, chilled champagne on ice, the very best gins and whiskies in town, seafood platters to three tier cream teas, offered daily.
