I was enormously honoured to be installed as OTA President, feeling very T privileged, but very humble, to follow in the footsteps of so many highly distinguished OTs. However, it was meeting so many former WELCOME TO THE pupils, particularly from the 80s, that made it such a memorable weekend. I am just an ‘Honorary’ Old Tauntonian, but 34 years teaching at TJS and TS gives me some insight, I would hope, into the Association. CLASS OF 2013 Additionally, my wife, Selma, is an OT – Weirfield and TS – and our two Tamilore Adedoyin-Dada, Mosope Afolabi, Ahmed Al-Hameli, Gan Angkananukroh, Will Baldwin, children, Jonathan and Chloe, were both educated at the School, so in many ways Taunton School has been my life for a good while now.     TRANSPORT FORUM Terms of Reference The Transport Forum is part of Peninsula Transport, reporting into the Shadow Sub National Transport Body (SSTB) Board. The Transport Forum has a clearly defined remit and purpose. Purpose The purpose of the group is to provide technical guidance and expertise to the Peninsula Transport SSTB Board and Senior Officer Group. The Forum will ensure that a broad range of stakeholder and partner views are taken into account by the SSTB and Senior Officer Group. The key challenge for the Peninsula is to strengthen our strategic links to keep pace with the rest of the UK, reinforcing connectivity and exploiting opportunities to become more productive. The group will therefore need to consider the following key areas: . Resilient road and rail networks to support connectivity including access to our regional airports and ports . Impact of technology and innovation in supporting our urban and rural mobility challenges . Infrastructure investment needed to unlock housing development and create accessible enterprise areas Members of the Forum will have the opportunity to shape and guide the development of the strategic Transport Strategy for Peninsula Transport SSTB. Principal activities The principal activities of the company and its subsidiaries are the provision of regular sea and air services for passengers and cargo between the mainland and the Isles of Scilly. During the year under review the companies continued the operation of ancillary activities as follows: marine engineers, ship repairers and operation of a dry dock, operation of the inter-island launch service, operation of Land’s End Aerodrome, operation of scenic flights and aeronautical engineering. On 20 August 2009 the group acquired the trade and assets of Penzance Dry Dock Ltd (in administration). Review of business The results for the year are shown in the profit and loss account on page 6. The group’s turnover increased by 2.4% (2009: decrease of 0.4%) to £9,775,224 (2009: £9,545,658). Cost of sales increased by 1.5% (2009: 2.4%). Operating profit before exceptional items was £608,368 (2009: £537,035). The exceptional item of £309,335 (2009: £Nil) is the group’s share of the 2009 actuarial deficit in the Merchant Navy Officers’ Pension Fund which will be paid in full in September 2010.
