GARCÍA ALDRETE* Abstract. Results of a survey of the Psocoptera of the Sierra Tarahumara, con- ducted from 14-20 June, 2002, are here presented. 33 species, in 17 genera and 12 families were collected; 17 species have not been described. 17 species are represented by 1-3 individuals, and 22 species were found each in only one collecting locality. It was estimated that from 10 to 12 more species may occur in the area. Fishers Alpha Diversity Index gave a value of 9.01. Only one species of Psocoptera had been recorded previously in the area. This study rises to 37 the species of Psocoptera known in the state of Chihuahua . Key words: Psocoptera, Tarahumara, Chihuahua, Mexico.

The survey came about following a request from Tai Po Environmental Association. Recording, using ultraviolet light sources and live traps in four sub-sites, took place on the evenings of 24 April and 16 October 2009. In total, 825 moths representing 352 species were recorded. Of the species recorded, 3 meet IUCN Red List criteria for threatened species in one of the three main categories “Critically Endangered” (one species), “Endangered” (one species) and “Vulnerable” (one species” and a further 13 species meet “Near Threatened” criteria. Twelve of the species recorded are currently only known from Hong Kong, all are within one of the four IUCN threatened or near threatened categories listed. Seven species are recorded from Hong Kong for the first time. The moth assemblages recorded are typical of human disturbed forest, feng shui woods and orchards, with a relatively low Geometridae component, and includes a small number of species normally associated with agriculture and open habitats that were found in the SSSI site. Comparisons showed that each sub-site had a substantially different assemblage of species, thus the site as a whole should retain the mosaic of micro-habitats in order to maintain the high moth species richness observed.

V.2012: Distribution records of aphids (He- miptera: Phylloxeroidea, Aphidoidea) associated with main forest-forming trees in Northern Europe. — Entomol. Fennica 23: 206–214. We report records of 25 species of aphids collected from four species of woody plants (Pinus sylvestris, Picea abies, Betula pubescens and B. pendula)at50 study sites in Northern Europe, located from 59° to 70° N and from 10° to 60° E. Critical evaluation of earlier publications demonstrated that in spite of the obvi- ous limitations of our survey, the obtained information substantially contributed to the knowledge of the distribution of aphids in North European Russia, includ- ing Murmansk oblast (103 species recorded to date), Republic of Karelia (58 spe- cies), Arkhangelsk oblast (37 species), Vologda oblast (17 species) and Republic of Komi (29 species). We confirm the occurrence of Cinara nigritergi in South- ern Karelia; Pineus cembrae, Cinara pilosa and Monaphis antennata are for the first time recorded in Norway. A. Among the storage pests, psocids were ignored in the past due to unavailability of the significant evidence regarding quantitative and qualitative losses caused by them. Their economic importance has been recognized by many re- searchers around the globe since the last few years. The published reports suggest that the pest be recognized as a new risk for global food security and safety. Psocids have been found infesting stored grains in the USA, Australia, UK, Brazil, Indonesia, China, India and Pakistan. About sixteen species of psocids have been identified and listed as pests of stored grains. Psocids generally prefer infested kernels having some fungal growth, but are capable of excavating the soft endosperm of damaged or cracked uninfected grains. Economic losses due to their feeding are directly pro- portional to the intensity of infestation and their population. The pest has also been reported to cause health problems in humans. Keeping the economic importance of psocids in view, their phylogeny, distribution, bio-ecology, manage- ment and pest status have been reviewed in this paper.

Records of the Hawaii Biological Survey for 1996. Bishop Museum Occasional Papers 49, 71 p. (1997) RECORDS OF THE HAWAII BIOLOGICAL SURVEY FOR 1996 Part 2: Notes1 This is the second of 2 parts to the Records of the Hawaii Biological Survey for 1996 and contains the notes on Hawaiian species of protists, fungi, plants, and animals includ- ing new state and island records, range extensions, and other information. Larger, more comprehensive treatments and papers describing new taxa are treated in the first part of this Records [Bishop Museum Occasional Papers 48]. Foraminifera of Hawaii: Literature Survey THOMAS A. BURCH & BEATRICE L. BURCH (Research Associates in Zoology, Hawaii Biological Survey, Bishop Museum, 1525 Bernice Street, Honolulu, HI 96817, USA) The result of a compilation of a checklist of Foraminifera of the Hawaiian Islands is a list of 755 taxa reported in the literature below. The entire list is planned to be published as a Bishop Museum Technical Report. This list also includes other names that have been applied to Hawaiian foraminiferans. Loeblich & Tappan (1994) and Jones (1994) dis- agree about which names should be used; therefore, each is cross referenced to the other. Literature Cited Bagg, R.M., Jr. 1980. Five noctuid species are recorded from Europe for the first time: Eublemma conistrota Hampson, 1910, Eiiblemma deserti Rothschild, 1909, Anumeta hilgerti (Rothschild 1909), Hadiila deserticula (Hampson 1905), and Eiixoa canariensis Rebel, 1902. New synonyms are stated: Leptosia velocissima f. tarda Turati, 1926, syn. n. and Leptosia griseimargo Warren, 1912, syn. n., both synonyms of Metachrostis velox (Hübner, 1813); and Pseudohadena (Eremohadena) roseonitens espugnensis Lajonquiere, 1964, syn. n., a synonym of P. (E.) roseonitens roseonitens (Oberthür, 1887). A new subspecies of Xylena exsoleta (Linneaus, 1758), Xylena exsoleta maltensis ssp. n., is established. The literature on Maltese Noctuoidea is reviewed and erronuousely reported species are indicated.

  • The Scale Insect Fauna of Citrus in Tunisia: a Critical Overview
International Journal of Fauna and Biological Studies 2018; 5(3): 169-178 ISSN 2347-2677 IJFBS 2018; 5(3): 169-178 Received: 23-03-2018 The scale insect fauna of citrus in Tunisia: A critical Accepted: 25-04-2018 overview Hanen Jendoubi Department of Agriculture Food and Environment, University of Hanen Jendoubi Catania, Italy Abstract Faunistic studies are important to register new distributional data and notify researchers of potential exotic pests. A critical review of citrus scale insect literature dealing with Tunisian records revealed the presence of 18 species. Faunistic records are scarce and scattered in taxonomic papers. The available studies lack precision and reliability. In addition, the scale insects injuring citrus trees have historically been overlooked by farmers and authorities in Tunisia unless they become destructive pests. An extensive field-survey on scale insects in all citrus regions of Tunisia was initiated, relating the obtained data to those previously reported in literature over a period of seventy years. In the present paper, we document the first comprehensive overview of the scale insect fauna associated to citrus crop in Tunisia. Twenty-two scale insect species were recorded. They belong to four families emanating from five zoogeographical areas, mainly the Palearctic. Old publications as well as origin, host plant and potential injury for each species were checked. Changes in species composition and regional distribution that might occur in citrus ecosystems were also discussed and updated. Keywords: Coccids, field survey, faunal studies, pest status 1. Introduction Faunistic studies are important for documenting new distributional data and notify researchers to potential exotic pests.
