February to 13. June 2013 Project group: UPM42013-9 Supervisor: Birgitte Hoffmann Copies: 2 Pages: 99 pages including appendix Appendices: Author: ______________________________ Meherun Nahar ii An analysis of institutional capacity for climate change adaptation in the Copenhagen area Abstract The report is based on the question ´How do different municipalities in HOFOR develop their own plan to implement climate change adaptation?´ Therefore focus will be on to find out what approaches that municipalities follow for climate change adaptation and how they relate these approaches with national adaptation strategy. Moreover the project will identify how municipalities work with other municipalities and how they divide their tasks among them regarding climate change adaptation. Besides, the project will identify how different municipalities cooperate with HOFOR and finally it will investigate how different municipalities engage people and other stakeholders in climate change adaptation. The report is based on multiple case studies where each municipality working with HOFOR is an individual case. The report is an exploratory one. The analysis is based on the interviews of representative persons from different municipalities, HOFOR, Avedøre Wastewater and an water expert, municipality plans and strategies and theories of sustainable urban water management, community resilience and social assessment, institutional theory and governance, power and collaborative planning.

  • Press Release
Press Release February 6, 2018 Philips Lighting installs first commercial Power-over-Ethernet Connected Lighting system for smart offices in the Nordics using Cisco network technology Copenhagen, Denmark – Philips Lighting (Euronext: LIGHT), the world leader in lighting and TDC Erhverv, Denmark’s largest supplier of integrated IT and communication technologies, have installed the first Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) connected lighting system in the Nordics, using Cisco network technology. The Philips lighting system in the newly built smart office in Albertslund Municipality in Copenhagen, Denmark, gives its building managers unique insights into energy use and space utilization, while enabling office workers to personalize their office lighting using a smartphone app. The project is a key landmark in Copenhagen’s Lighting Metropolis initiative. The smart office features a Philips PoE connected lighting system with occupancy sensors integrated with Philips SmartBalance and Philips PowerBalance luminaires. Approximately 400 LED light fixtures are connected to Cisco’s secure networking technology and powered by the small electric charge carried by the network’s Ethernet cables, which also route data acquired by the sensors to the building’s management system. Albertslund Municipality foresees the energy-efficient connected office lighting system as a paradigm shift in public digital management and service. “The new connected lighting system provides us with an infrastructure fit for the digital age. The municipality expects that the results will be promising enough to broaden the use of such technology to other municipality buildings – with the initial focus on buildings used for administration, healthcare and learning. Environments where lighting can be adjusted by staff to meet their needs and have sensor- based functions are becoming increasingly important,” said Niels Carsten Bluhme, Director of City, Environment, Culture & Employment at Albertslund Municipality.

  • Resilient Design Properties of a Driverless Transport System
INTERNATIONAL DESIGN CONFERENCE - DESIGN 2018 https://doi.org/10.21278/idc.2018.0539 RESILIENT DESIGN PROPERTIES OF A DRIVERLESS TRANSPORT SYSTEM M. Wied, J. Oehmen and T. Welo Abstract From its origin in ecology, resilient system properties have attracted wider interest for their applications to man-made systems. Previous research has shown that a simple conceptual model seems to capture much resilience thinking across disciplines and system types. In this paper, we apply that model to study resilient properties in the design and development of an autonomous public transport system, attempting to circumvent the problem of commitment under uncertainty. We identify a number of resilient system properties and classify them by function into six distinct categories. Keywords: complex systems, risk management, project management, design strategy 1. Introduction Many important events in a system’s life cycle cannot be known in advance. Nonetheless, irreversible up-front design commitments have to be made. Addressing the problem of commitment under uncertainty, this paper argues that systems should generally be designed to perform under a wider range of conditions, than traditionally considered. In other words, systems should be more resilient to changing conditions. This problem is part of the wider challenge of implementing design strategy under uncertainty. Originally conceptualised for understanding natural systems, resilient system properties have recently gained wider interest for their application to the design of man-made systems. A
