For immediate release STEVE LEUNG DEBUTS COLLABORATION WITH LEGENDARY ITALIAN INTERIOR DOOR BRAND LUALDI ON YING (迎) DOOR COLLECTION A Tribute to Traditional Chinese Heritage and Superb Italian Craftsmanship (Hong Kong, December 02, 2020) Steve Leung Design Group (SLD) proudly presents its debut collaboration with Lualdi – the legendary name in the history of Italian design for interior doors and boiserie, in celebration of eclectic design and artisanal excellence. As the first Asian designer lined up for this special partnership, the exquisite Ying (迎) door collection designed by Steve Leung embodies rich Chinese heritage and masterful Italian craftsmanship in a seamless symbiosis, manifesting a continuum between Oriental tradition and Western sensibility to create timeless elegance and understated luxury for interior doors. As the first-ever collaboration between Lualdi and an Asian designer, Ying collection marks the stages of an uninterrupted path of passionate study and innovation. Named after the Chinese meaning of “welcome”, Ying wants to communicate the heartfelt greetings found in the Italian hospitality tradition. It celebrates the Italian welcoming culture through a contemporary design that blends ancient Chinese woodcraft technique with exceptional Italian craftsmanship. The collection speaks a profound cultural message expressed through a minimalist design lexicon that perfectly echoes and honours the culture of the East and the West. A bespoke gateway revealing ritual Chinese symbolism Taking inspiration from sǔn mǎo (榫卯) – a traditional Chinese technique of handcrafting the finest durable joinery, Steve has reimagined the skill and applied modern sensibility and contemporary elements to this collection. The exceptional interplay of wood and metal forms an important role in embellishing the door in a unique fashion, achieving a melodic balance. The door frame is rigorously joined by sǔn mǎo details paired with a sturdy base in dark wooden grooving, echoing the ancient Chinese artistry; the upper part of the door is instead flexible, accommodating a wide selection of colours and materials to create bespoke preferences with a palette of distinctive interior styles. Over the Chinese dynasties, the door acquired a strong ritual connotation, its colour representing different social status of ancient Chinese households. Ying collection ingeniously integrates this profound legacy into its design, giving birth to an inimitable aesthetic weaved into a vivid symbolism. The made-to-order upper part of the door features a wide array of colours and textures, also reflecting distinct cultural connotations: Red Lacquer, an implication of happiness and good fortune illuminated by textured leather; Yellow Lacquer, an explicit expression of imperial virtue; Black Lacquer, a more discreet and versatile choice. Sharply contrasting with the gorgeous opulence of the painted doors, the purity of the wood choice breathes nature into the ambience, evoking a balanced and harmonious feel. Within the same design range, smooth glass doors set the tone for a different mood, tempting viewers to disclose the unseen views hidden behind the surface. Available in multiple options perfect for both domestic and work spaces, the exquisite Ying collection discloses flawless space transitions, unfolding a fascinating journey of century-old Chinese wisdom and contemporary Italian artisanship. -END- Photo Captions Image 1: Ying collection can customize each door to individual preferences and different interior styles.
