Bedfont Sports Club was founded in 2002, when with considerable help from the local Council a lease was taken out on the near derelict Hatton Road Recreation Ground. The only building on the site was refurbished to allow use as a bar and clubhouse on the ground floor and changing rooms on the upper one. Most of this work was carried out or supervised by the Chairman Dave Reader. Much work was also done to the playing area to provide playable pitches for Bedfont Sports on Saturdays and Bedfont Sunday, one of the oldest Sunday teams in Middlesex, on Sundays. To give the Club a junior section Bedfont Eagles, formed in 1978,joined the two adult Clubs a short time later. Bedfont Sports started in the Hounslow and District League for two seasons and then joined the Middlesex County Football League, this being a feeder League to Step 5. More work was needed to enable the team to play in the Premier Division of the MCFL to which they gained promotion in 2004/05. After many ups and downs promotion was finally achieved to the Combined Counties Reserve Division in season 2008/09. During this time application were made to the F A and the Football Foundation for funds to enable Flood Lights and a new Dressing Room block to be built together with a 3G five a side pitch. This finally materialised in 2010/11to give the state-of-the-art complex now available at Bedfont Sports. In the Combined Counties League Bedfont gained promotion to the Premier Division in season 2011/12 and have spent the past two seasons consolidating that position. Permanent fencing now surrounds the ground and the erection of a 150-seater stand has been installed. Bedfont Sports is a true Community Club catering for 22 Junior Teams, 2 U18 youth teams, 3 Men's Sunday teams and our senior 1' 1 team. The Youth Section is particularly vibrant playing in the Ryman Youth and Allied counties Youth Leagues and having won the Combined Counties under 18 Cup 4 times in the last 5 seasons also we are currently the holders of the Under 15s Middlesex County cups. Players from the Youth section make the step up to adult football, at least 8 from that section being regulars in the 1st team at present. A successful kick boxing club use the facilities together with a boxing club, a rugby team and three darts teams. The bar area has been recently refurbished as a Sports bar with televisions on all walls. We are very proud that our Youth teams have been home-grown from Bedfont Eagles and with some real talent coming through this will continue for years to come. In 2018 Bedfont Sports won promotion into the Isthmian League, Step 4 in The FA Football Pyramid. The Pitching In Grassroots Sports Investment Programme is our new sponsor We are delighted to announce that the new sponsor of the, Isthmian, Northern Premier and Southern Leagues is Pitching In. For the period of this sponsorship we will be known as the Pitching In Isthmian League. Pitching In is a new Grassroots Sports Investment Programme that has today been launched by GVC, the multi-national sports-betting and gaming group which owns Ladbrokes and Coral. The partnership covers all three leagues that make up Steps 3 & 4 of the National Leagues System, who market themselves collectively as the Trident Leagues. England footballing legend , who played for Wealdstone FC for five years at the start of his long and illustrious career, has been appointed as the official Pitching In ambassador. Stuart commented: “I am delighted to be taking up the role of ambassador for Pitching In, as I’m passionate about the importance of investing in grassroots sports and in developing young talent. I started out playing for Wealdstone FC before joining Coventry City, so I understand how important funding is to the non-league game. Grassroots football is facing huge challenges at the moment and many clubs are struggling to stay afloat. GVC’s Pitching In investment will help make a big difference to hundreds of clubs and thousands of players across the country.” Pitching In has been set up with the objective of supporting, protecting and encouraging grassroots sports in the UK through a range of initiatives. In addition to financial support, a key focus of the partnership will be to facilitate and encourage members of the community to become volunteers and do some pitching in of their own. A Pitching In volunteering scheme will be established to link GVC’s Ladbrokes and Coral shop colleagues with their local clubs. In the weeks ahead Pitching In and the Trident Leagues will be announcing further initiatives to provide financial support and opportunities for all the 226 clubs (rising to 240 in 2021). Club History Hassocks Hassocks Football Club was founded in 1902 and spent the first 80 years of it's existence competing in the Mid Sussex Football League and Brighton and Hove and District Football League, playing at Adastra Park in the middle of the village. The Robins first piece of silverware came when lifting the Mid Sussex League's prestigious Mowatt Cup in 1928 and they added the showpiece trophy of the Montgomery Cup in 1960. The club really began to get noticed with the move into the Brighton and Hove League in the mid 60's, winning promotion from Division Three to Division One in back-to-back seasons in 1965 and 1966 and then eventually lifting the league championship in 1972 after finishing runners up the previous year. The Sussex Intermediate Cup was added in 1975 to complete a golden era for Hassocks and ambitions of senior football were finally realised for 1981-82 when the club became members of Division Two of the Sussex County Football League. They finished that first season in 12th place and consolidated that hard earned senior status with a succession of top half placings in the division until a change in ground grading rules saw them demoted into Division Three and a return to intermediate football. 1991 saw huge changes, with Jim Goodrum taking over as chairman, Dave John arriving as general manager from Haywards Heath Town and a new coaching team of Nick Greenwood and Peter Liddell taking over first team affairs with a massive influx of players. Results were immediate as Greenwood and Liddell led Hassocks to the Division Three title by 10 points in 1991-92 but more importantly the progress on the pitch was matched off it with the club finally leaving Adastra Park to move into it's own purpose built ground, The Beacon. Club History Hassocks The improved facilities at the venue that members worked so hard to secure meant promotion and a return to senior football and just three years later the runners up spot in Division Two was secured. To take their place in Division One of the Sussex County League for the first time, quality floodlights had to be provided and they came through fundraising and a generous donation from Chelsea vice-chairman Matthew Harding who lived locally and whose sons Pat and Joel would all onto represent the club. The floodlights were officially opened when a Chelsea XI featuring and made the journey to the Beacon, one season later they made their debut in the FA Vase and then a year on in the FA Cup with a remarkable run to the third qualifying round coming in 2001-2002 which was finally ended by Lewes en route to meeting Stoke City in the first round proper. 2002 saw Hassocks mark their centenary by facing an ex-Arsenal and Celebrity XI while Steve Coppell took charge of Brighton and Hove Albion for the first time when the Seagulls visited the Beacon to open the new Maurice Boxall Stand, funded in part by the previous seasons FA Cup run. In 2007, the ground was improved further with the opening of one of the finest clubhouses in the County League after a long fundraising and building process. The Robins enjoyed their most successful season on record in 2011-12 when manager Mickey Jewell led his side to a best fourth placed finish in Division One as well as the semi finals of the RUR Cup. Club History Hassocks Jewell stepped down at the end of the 2013-14 season, since when club legend John returned for a brief third spell at the helm followed by Mark Dalgleish and Phil Wickwar who have guided the side to solid if not spectacular lower mid table finishes in recent years, with Mark then taking sole charge from 2018-19. Following the curtailed 2019-2020 it was felt a change in management was required, which has seen Dave John taking back over as overall manager. He has a number of coaches and ex-players assisting him, as the club look to progress through some exciting young talent. HASSOCKS Line Up From:
