Traditionally during the summer period we anticipate a rise in incidence of anti-social behaviour generally and I am ensuring that our beat managers and PCSO’s are targeting our priority areas in relation to this accordingly. Please continue to feedback any concerns regarding this or any other issues at our regular street surgeries. As you may be aware our engagement officer PC Jim Squires and myself recently took part in an online street surgery from which we got a good response. This is part of our continuing efforts to engage fully with the communities we serve. Crime Updates Offence Numbers What could this entail Arson 0 Damage caused as a result of fire. Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) 0 Harassment, alarm or distress is caused in a non-crime incident. Burglary - Business and community 0 Thefts committed in shops, businesses and other property Burglary - Residential 2 Entry to any building within the curtilage/boundary of a residence, e.g. garden sheds and garages Criminal Damage 1 A person destroys or damages property belonging to someone else. Domestic 0 Domestic incidents where a crime has not occurred. Parties are aged 16 or over and have been intimate partners or family members regardless of sexuality. Hate Incident 0 Any incident where a crime has not occurred which the victim, or anyone else, thinks is based on someone’s prejudice towards them because of their race, religion, sexual orientation, disability or because they are transgender. Race or Religious aggravated public fear 0 Any crime determined to have a hate element as per above. Possession of controlled substance 0 Unlawful possession of a drug classified in class A, B or C. Possession of weapons 0 Unlawful possession of an article used as a weapon. Public fear, alarm or distress 0 Public order offences e.g. from a verbal altercation to offences just short of violence. Robbery 0 Includes a range of offences where force is used, threatened or the victim is put in fear. Theft from a motor vehicle 0 Any item stolen that was in, on or attached to a motor vehicle. Theft or unauthorised taking of a motor 0 Any motor vehicle including those abandoned. vehicle Theft of pedal cycle 0 From a public place, if stolen form a shed or garage this would be a BOTD. Theft from a person 0 Purse being taken from a handbag, or a mobile phone from a shopping basket. Message from your Engagement Officer We continue to try and improve ways we engage with you all, so we have decided to hold a public meeting every three months. These meeting will give you the opportunity to be updated on what we are doing on the seven policing areas within the district, hear what issues have been raised at our most recent street surgeries, followed by your opportunity to raise any issues or concerns with the local policing Inspector and his team. The meetings will move around the district so the community have an opportunity to attend and not have to travel great distances each time. NORFOLK THROUGH A LENS A guide to the Photographic Collections held by Norfolk Library & Information Service 2 NORFOLK THROUGH A LENS A guide to the Photographic Collections held by Norfolk Library & Information Service History and Background The systematic collecting of photographs of Norfolk really began in 1913 when the Norfolk Photographic Survey was formed, although there are many images in the collection which date from shortly after the invention of photography (during the 1840s) and a great deal which are late Victorian. In less than one year over a thousand photographs were deposited in Norwich Library and by the mid- 1990s the collection had expanded to 30,000 prints and a similar number of negatives. The devastating Norwich library fire of 1994 destroyed around 15,000 Norwich prints, some of which were early images. Fortunately, many of the most important images were copied before the fire and those copies have since been purchased and returned to the library holdings. In 1999 a very successful public appeal was launched to replace parts of the lost archive and expand the collection. Today the collection (which was based upon the survey) contains a huge variety of material from amateur and informal work to commercial pictures. This includes newspaper reportage, portraiture, building and landscape surveys, tourism and advertising. There is work by the pioneers of photography in the region; there are collections by talented and dedicated amateurs as well as professional art photographers and early female practitioners such as Olive Edis, Viola Grimes and Edith Flowerdew. More recent images of Norfolk life are now beginning to filter in, such as a village survey of Ashwellthorpe by Richard Tilbrook from 1977, groups of Norwich punks and Norfolk fairs from the 1980s by Paul Harley and re-development images post 1990s.

Parish Registers and Transcripts in the Norfolk Record Office This list summarises the Norfolk Record Office’s (NRO’s) holdings of parish (Church of England) registers and of transcripts and other copies of them. Parish Registers The NRO holds registers of baptisms, marriages, burials and banns of marriage for most parishes in the Diocese of Norwich (including Suffolk parishes in and near Lowestoft in the deanery of Lothingland) and part of the Diocese of Ely in south-west Norfolk (parishes in the deanery of Fincham and Feltwell). Some Norfolk parish records remain in the churches, especially more recent registers, which may be still in use. In the extreme west of the county, records for parishes in the deanery of Wisbech Lynn Marshland are deposited in the Wisbech and Fenland Museum, whilst Welney parish records are at the Cambridgeshire Record Office. The covering dates of registers in the following list do not conceal any gaps of more than ten years; for the populous urban parishes (such as Great Yarmouth) smaller gaps are indicated. Whenever microfiche or microfilm copies are available they must be used in place of the original registers, some of which are unfit for production. A few parish registers have been digitally photographed and the images are available on computers in the NRO's searchroom. The digital images were produced as a result of partnership projects with other groups and organizations, so we are not able to supply copies of whole registers (either as hard copies or on CD or in any other digital format), although in most cases we have permission to provide printout copies of individual entries.

Norton Marshes to Haddiscoe Dismantled
This area inspired the artist Sir J. A. Arnesby 16 Yare Valley - Norton Marshes to Brown (1866-1955) who lived each summer Haddiscoe Dismantled Railway at The White House, Haddiscoe. Herald of the Night, Sir J.A.Arnesby-Brown Why is this area special? This is a vast area of largely drained marshland which lies to the south of the Rivers Yare and Waveney. It traditionally formed part of the parishes of Norton (Subcourse), Thurlton, Thorpe and Haddiscoe along with a detached part of Raveningham. It would have had a direct connection to what is now known as Haddiscoe Island, prior to the construction of the New Cut which connected the Yare and Waveney together to avoid having to travel across Breydon Water. There are few houses within this marshland area. Those that exist are confined to those locations 27 where there were, or are transport links across NORFOLK the rivers.
