The purpose of this event was to improve dramatic talents as well as English skills of students in the Faculty of Science. This programme was sponsored for the third time by the IRQUE project specifically under the social harmony component. Donation by Medical Students Medical undergraduates of batch 2003/04 have generously donated books worth Rs.100.000 to the Medical Library just after their final MBBS examination in December 2009. Books were selected according to the current requirements of the library, thus the donation is of great value to the readership. The books were handed over to the Dean at the Medical Library in the presence of the Branch Librarian of the Medical Library and the Chairman of the Faculty Library Committee. The Faculty Board at its meeting in January appreciated the timely act of students and recommended keeping it on record. Winners of the Inter Medical Faculty Paediatric Quiz 2010 The Annual inter Medical Faculty Paediatric Quiz, organized by the Sri Lanka College of Paediatricians, was held for the 4th consecutive time on 21, March 2010 at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, Independence square, Colombo. The Peradeniya Medical Faculty team was the winners of this quiz competition with an outstanding score defeating the Sri Jayawardanapura Medical Faculty team in the final round.     2.0 PRESEMT BSTUATIOM Kandy is situated in central part of Sri Lanka, a valley with surrounding hills at 1,600 to 2,000 ft, range of mean sea level. It is the second largest city in this country and main town among the three districts Kandy, Matale, and Nuwara- Eliya in the Central Province. Kandy District is bounded north by Matale district, east by Badulla district, south by Nuwara- Eliya district, west by Kurunegala district, (see Fig. 2.1).The following are the main traffic attraction features in the city of Kandy. (a) Kandy is the main administrative center for the Central Provincial Council and other administrative establishments and they are located in the city. (b) The Dalada Maligawa which is the most important place for Buddhists in Sri Lanka, four Devala and annual Dalada Perahera has given a prominent place to Kandy. This city has been identified and declared as one of the world heritage cities because of its unique and historical value.
