Kandy District is bounded north by Matale district, east by Badulla district, south by Nuwara- Eliya district, west by Kurunegala district, (see Fig. 2.1).The following are the main traffic attraction features in the city of Kandy. (a) Kandy is the main administrative center for the Central Provincial Council and other administrative establishments and they are located in the city. (b) The Dalada Maligawa which is the most important place for Buddhists in Sri Lanka, four Devala and annual Dalada Perahera has given a prominent place to Kandy. This city has been identified and declared as one of the world heritage cities because of its unique and historical value.
