The Krka River Lodge is about thirty minutes from Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, but it is a world away on the banks of the krka river, surrounded by a charming hills of Lower Carniola. It lies near the source of the Krka River, which puts us right on one of the best chalk streams in the world. Depending on arrival time, we’ll have some time to explore the river and see if any of the large browns or rainbows are biting... In order to combat jet-lag, we’ll want to keep everyone up as long as possible. Note - For the first part of the trip, we’ll be based out of the Krka River Lodge., the group will fish on 4 different rivers over the course of four days. Depending on the size of the group, the party will be subdivided to ensure the best fishing opportunities. Additionally, the order that we fish these rivers may change based on conditions. We’ll have a brown bag lunch, and then adjust our location based on the conditions. Once we are done fishing, we’ll drive back to the Krka River Lodge and get cleaned up. We’ll have an evening meal at Grajska plaza and enjoy local cuisine and an amazing view along Lake Bled. 5 Water Man Adventures, LLC. www.watermanadv.com 303-828-6132 [email protected] Day 4 After breakfast at our lodging, you’ll be driven about an hour to the coastal karst region in the south of Slovenia. You will have guided fishing along the willow-lined banks and meadows of the Unica River, one of Europe's best limestone streams, where the Brown Trout are massive and the Grayling present their own challenges in this dry-fly only river. We’ll have our lunch in the nearby village of Planina, then adjust our location for the afternoon’s fishing. Once we are done fishing, we’ll get cleaned up at our Lodge and then drive about thirty minutes to Slovenia’s capital city, Ljubljana, where we’ll have an evening meal at the most famous brewery in town – Pivnica Union. We’ll walk in the center of Ljubljana and take in the riverside nightlife of Europe’s smallest capital city. 6 Water Man Adventures, LLC. www.watermanadv.com 303-828-6132 [email protected] Day 5 Before breakfast at our Lodge, we’ll will walk right outside to the Krka River, which is a gentle limestone stream that emerges from a cave close to the village of the same name. Your guides will help you understand the nuances of this river and set you up for what may be the best day of fishing yet. you’ll have a day of guided fishing on one of Slovenia’s most unique rivers and one of Europe's best limestone streams, where the Browns and Rainbows are massive. This mountain spa retreat is in the heart of Triglav National Park and has the alpine-style accommodations of a fully restored 1850’s farmstead, to include guest cabins, sauna, conference room, restaurant, and espresso bar. In addition to the spectacular alpine valley setting, an impressive feature of the hotel is the string of Lipizzaner horses. Once we are done for the day, those who don’t need to rest can go to the town of Kobarid, where you will have the opportunity to visit the World War I Museum. Ponder the immensity of human conflict from the battle positions high on the ridge above Kobarid.     Fishing in the waters of Novo mesto Fishing Club Slovenia Dear fishermen! The Novo mesto Fishing Club (Ribiška družina Novo mesto) is in terms of membership the biggest of 64 fishing clubs in Slovenia which have been entrusted by the state with the management of fish population in Slovene rivers and lakes. The Novo mesto fishing Club manages 350 ha of water surface in fishing area of Novo mesto-Žužemberk. This includes river Krka from Zagradec to Mrše~a vas in the length of 59 km with all the river’s tributaries of which the most important ones for fishermen are Radeš~ica, Temeni- ca from Velik Gaber until its mouth and fishponds Blato at Trebnje and Vodranec at Oto~ec. The Krka river has three fishing districts: I. district is salmonid area where brown trout and rain- bow trout are represented. II. district is mixed salmonid-cyprinid area where among salmonid species there are brown trout, rainbow trout, grayling and Danube salmon (huchen), and among cypri- nids the most numerous are Danube roach, nase, barbel, chub, carp, tench and pike. III. district is cyprinid area, in which there are mostly Danu- be roach, nase, barbel, chub, carp, tench, vimba, freshwa- 1 ter breams, roach, bleak, Red Eye and from the predator fish also pike, wels, chrup and huchen. In the Radaš~ica brook salmonid species such as: brown trout, rainbow trout and grayling are represented. In the fishpond Blato there are cyprinid species, among which the most numerous are carps, tenches, breams and pike-perches. Novo mesto fishing Club is one of rare Slovene fishing clubs where two autochthonous fish species: Danube roach and nase are independently bread and it is the only fishing club having established a system of yearly fish hatchery of half year old Danube roach and nase juveniles 2 intended for repopulation of those species in the fishing districts of the river Krka and its tributaries.
