For the sake of this wine list, our natural wines are wines that are grown or produced by winemakers implementing organic & biodynamic practices, mostly unfined & unfiltered, and the least amount of sulfur added at the end of bottling, or no sulfur added at all. These wines are complex and interesting much like our food and greatly complement our menu. These wines are alive, have character and evolve very quickly over time in the glass. They are meant to be enjoyed with food, with us here at Alter.

Now talking about wines, the Wine and sprit association of the Great Britain has sponsored the following definition of Wine ―Wine is an alcoholic beverage obtained from the fermentation of the juice of freshly gathered grapes. Fermentation is conducted in the district of origin according to local customs and traditions. To bear the name Wine, the product must come only from grapes. If made from other fruits; the fruit name must be put before the tern Wine eg. Blackberry Wine, Apricot Wine, Fig Wine. Only a small part of the world is Wine producing. This is because the grape will only provide juice of the quality required for conversion into consumable Wine where two climatic conditions prevail. 1. Sufficient sun-shine to ripen the grape 2. Winters that are moderate yet sufficiently cool to give the Wine a chance to rest and restore its strength for the growing and fruiting season.

  • Grower Champagne: The Selosse School And
Grower Champagne: The Selosse School and Beyond Grower Champagne is fast overtaking white Burgundy as a collectible favorite for regular consumption, and has been vastly undervalued in the market, as many people are not yet familiar with all of the producers and their individual cuvees. That has begun to change, as the major critics are now covering these wines with widespread interest. Distribution is still fragmented though, and restaurant sommeliers (who often get the first look) tend to buy-up the available supply for their menu pairings and by-the-glass pours. We are particularly interested in this category, which offers more quality-for-value and much greater long-term aging predictability than white Burgundy too. For $40 - $80 / bottle, you have an enormous amount of food-friendly wines, with real depth and complexity, that will age and improve for 15+ years - read some of the reviews below, and see what the professionals say. We're pleased to offer a large selection of top-rated Champagnes,

382 Book and Film Reviews VIVIAN PERRY and JOHN VINCENT: Winemakers of the Willamette Valley: Pioneering Vintners from Oregon’s Wine Country. American Palate, Charleston, South Carolina, 2013, 160 pp., ISBN: 978-1609496760 (paperback), $19.99. CILA WARNCKE: Oregon Wine Pioneers. Vine Lives Publishing, Portland, Oregon, 2015, 234 pp., ISBN: 978-1943090761 (paperback), $19.99. Admittedly, it was hard to write a dispassionate review of books that so lovingly describe the region in which I live and so admiringly profile many of my acquain- tances in the Oregon wine industry. Therefore, I used as measures of merit how well each echoed my impressions of this most beautiful area and its people, and whether each accomplished its objectives. Perry’s and Vincent’s Winemakers of the Willamette Valley (WWV) “is meant to showcase the stories of a handful of Oregon’s many Willamette Valley winemakers” (WWV, p. 11). A foreword by Chehalem founder Harry Peterson-Nedry sets the per- sonal tone that pervades those stories. Next, in a mere eight pages of text, the first chapter, “History of the Willamette Valley Wine Region,” covers the climate, soil, grape selection, craftsmanship, industry structure and early success in sufficient detail to provide valuable context. The authors then share intimate interviews with eighteen vintners and vignerons. Within each chapter named for one or two wine- makers are brief descriptions of the wineries that each is affiliated with. These include year founded, ownership, varietals, tasting room location, hours and con- tacts. Sustainability features, a point of pride in the Oregon wine industry, are also listed.
