Thou Couldest Have Gone to Yon Renaissance Festival, But Thou Choseth Dream on to Go to Ye Same Olde Party as Last Weeketh. Any student holding U.S. citizenship should be outraged at the outright discrimination proposed by Congress’ so-called DREAM Act. The Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors, or DREAM, Act is but another slap on the already bruised face of college students across the U.S. If this act is passed, states will have the federal government's stamp of approval to charge illegal immigrants in-state tuition at institutions of higher education. While one might argue the cost of education should not GVL / Jacob Bowen discriminate on place of birth, the mere existence of out-of-state YOUR INSIGHTS------tuition rates nullifies this avenue of dispute. Looking past the conservative right’s claim this act will open the door for mass-amnesty and citizenship for illegal immigrants, Do you plan on getting the H1N1 vaccine? the most basic issue remains the act's provision for undocumented immigrants to be eligible for in-state tuition rates. At Grand Valley State University, lower division undergraduate students from Illinois, Ohio or some other state must pay $6,472 for 12 to 16 credits, while Michigan residents pay $4,315 in these same categories.
