  • Ministry Area Brochure
The Placeholder Next Steps Forming Ministry Areas Diocese of Swansea and Brecon Summer 2014 From Bishop John … Dear Friends, In this booklet you’ll find the pattern of Ministry Areas by means of which, as they come into being, the Diocese will renew and develop its ministry. This marks the end of a lengthy period of prayerful consultation to which everybody in the Diocese had opportunities to contribute. Ministry Areas, adopted by the whole Church in Wales as the pattern for the future, offer us a fresh and exciting opportunity to renew the ways in which to minister in the communities where we are set. They offer a way of collaborative working, commended by the New Testament, with communities of disciples, lay and ordained, sharing ministry, growing in faith and into the image of Christ, witnessing to those around, and working to create new disciples. Whatever our present way of doing things might be, doing what we’ve always done is not an option however familiar or comfortable that might be. We will commit to a 'group practice' model for collaborative ministry and mission, with local churches working together in partnerships across familiar boundaries to enrich relationships and to share talents, gifts and resources. Instead of offering just one form and style across an area, we will offer a variety of worship and other opportunities, with a common aim of building a stronger, sustainable and more effective church which looks not only down the aisle but also out there into the community. It is intended that the current eleven Area Deaneries are revised to four with the designated Ministry Areas grouped into one of the new Deaneries.

  • The Price of Obedience
THE PRICE OF OBEDIENCE by Kyle Williams December 12, 2008 Luke 6:20-23 John Evan Price led a horse that drew a cart of household items, carpenter tools, and furniture that he had crafted with his own hands. His wife, Ruth Williams Price, walked beside him carrying their one-year-old daughter, Ruth Ann. Esther, their six-year-old, giggled with delight as she rode on the cart. A number of friends walked with the Price family, singing a Welsh farewell in beautiful harmony. After the hymn, the friends exchanged hugs with Ruth and John, said their final good-byes, and returned to Cwmamman to do their morning chores. John rubbed his clean-shaven face, scratched the dark brown beard growing below his jaw line, straightened his tall, hard hat, and continued the journey with his family. It was Saturday, August 25, 1849. The daydawn was breaking in Carmarthenshire, Wales. "John!" A deep baritone voice echoed through the morning fog, "John Price!" The supervisor at the coal mine panted for breath as he ran to the departing family. "John, it's not too late if you turn around now. Don't make me hire another sawyer. Haven't we been good to you?" "You're an excellent overseer, and I've enjoyed working for you." "Then come back." "I'm sorry, but I must go to Llangadog." "Do you have employment there?" "The Lord will provide." "Don't be a fool. Ruth, can you talk some sense into him?" Ruth smiled and said, "You know my husband is an elder for the Latter-day Saints, and he has the gift of preaching.

  • Deep Rural Localities
DEEP RURAL LOCALITIES October 2009 ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS During the ‘deep rural’ research project the Wales Rural Observatory team travelled to a number of places and met a range of people. Invariably, everybody was friendly and cooperative. The Wales Rural Observatory wishes to extend its thanks to the people who helped with the research. Local authority personnel in Gwynedd, Pembrokeshire and Powys were instrumental in the early stages of the research: helping to establish the criteria for ‘deep rural’; providing advice on local conditions; and providing local contacts. The Clerks of Community Council in the research communities of Aberdaron, Clydau, Llanfihangel - yng- Ngwynfa and Llangammarch Wells were most helpful in arranging meetings with the community councils and setting-up meeting places, notice boards and catering arrangements for the research teams engaged in the household surveys. In this context, thanks are extended to those local shops and public houses that assisted the research by displaying notices and acting as distribution and collection centres for the household survey. The Wales Rural Observatory is grateful to the teams of post-graduate students who conducted the household survey. Finally, the Wales Rural Observatory wishes to thank the people who participated in the research, the people who live and work in ‘deep rural’ Wales. Especial thanks are extended to respondents to the household questionnaire; agencies and organisations who responded to the service provision questionnaire; those people who organised the focus
