Blwyddyn / Year Adroddiad Blynyddol / Annual Report 1966-67 Disgrifiad / Description Journal of the testator's father, Rev William Rees (1839-1919), Independent minister at Llechryd, co. Cardigan, who, with part of his congregation, had been locked out of the Old Chapel on 26 February 1880 (NLW MS 12863F). Two obvious reasons for this dispute were the minister's uncompromising views on temperance and his adherence to the teachings of Emanuel Swedenborg. The journal commences on 2 March 1880 and the last entry was made some time after Christmas 1917. The contents of this volume may be broadly divided into three sections: the author's career and the history of the new Tabernacle at Llechryd, 1880-1903 and 1911-[?1918] (pp. 1-228 and 457-94), a section which began with his wife's death, and contains, in addition to material such as that found in the first section, a considerable volume of verse, 1904-10 (pp. 229-436); and a brief sketch of his life (pp. 437- 57). Pembroke, involving studies of the families of Propert, Hendre-Eynon and of Williams, Tancredston, Brawdy, who inherited Hendre-Eynon through marriage, and also of such families as Mortimer and Harries of Trehowell, Llanwnda, Rees of Newgale, Brawdy, and Williams of Trearched, Llanrhian; notes concerning the family of the testator's mother who was Ruth, daughter of George Lister, Cottingham, co. York; a file containing typescript copies of original deeds and documents relating to the Williams family of Hendre-Eynon, 1758-1806, including a note on the Williams family of Trearched; a genealogy of the family of William ap John ap Thomas of Treowen whose daughter Blanch married Rowland Morgan of Machen; a roll of sheriffs of Pembrokeshire, 1679-1794; a cookery book of Jane Dawson, wife of George Lister of Cottingham; and 'schedules' (2 volumes) of Eaton Evans and Williams deeds compiled in the National Library of Wales (Extracted). There are also a number of valuable printed books, reflecting the donor's genealogical and historical interests (Dept of Printed Books), including Lewis Dwnn: Heraldic Visitations of Wales, vol. I, edited by Sir S. R. Meyrick, 1846; George Owen: The Taylors Cussion, published by Emily M. Pritchard, 1906; a volume containing interleaved copies, with manuscript notes by the testator, of Pedigrees of Carmarthenshire, Cardiganshire and Pembrokeshire in continuation of Lewis Dwnn from the MS. of J. P. A. L. Phillips of Dale Castle, formerly in the possession of G. Grant Francis, containing also an autograph letter from Sir Thomas Phillipps of Middle Hill to the latter, 2 January 1860, and of Glamorganshire Pedigrees from the MSS of Sir Isaac Heard, edited by Sir Thomas Phillipps, 1845; a volume containing Rice Merrick's Book of Glamorganshire Antiquities, 1878, edited by Sir T. Edmunds), Ty Isaf, Llandderfel (NLW Facsimiles 43). `GWYL Y GLANIAD', CHUBUT 1967005 Ffynhonnell / Source The Governor of the Province of Chubut, per Dr Jenkin Alban Davies. Blwyddyn / Year Adroddiad Blynyddol / Annual Report 1966-67 Disgrifiad / Description A bronze plaque representing part of one side of the national memorial erected at Porth Madryn and unveiled by the President of the Argentine Republic on the occasion of the centenary celebrations of 'Gwyl y Glaniad', 1965 (Dept of Pictures and Maps). The plaque depicts the meeting of the Welsh pioneers and the Indians, and it was stated that no other nation had been able to establish such friendly relations with the Indians. The plaque was presented by the Governor of the Province of Chubut to Dr. Jenkin Alban Davies, as leader of the Welsh deputation to the centenary celebrations, 'to be conveyed for safe keeping to a National Institution in Wales'. In view of the increasing academic interest in the growth and development of local government in Wales this is a most useful addition to the Library's collection of printed material in this field of study. A collection of papers concerning the 1885 election in Cardiganshire (NLW MS 19643B), including some 140 letters written during the campaign to H. C. Fryer, agent for David Davies, the Liberal candidate, from sub-agents and party workers in all parts of the county, and lists of electors in the Aberystwyth area apparently used for canvassing purposes (NLW MS 19644D).
