Initialement, c’est Dakar, la capitale sénégalaise, qui devait accueillir cette étape. Mais faute de moyens, elle s’est finalement désengagée et c’est donc l’Algérie qui a été retenue. Pour ce rendez-vous, 25 nations ont confirmé leur participation, notamment la Hongrie, la France, la Rus- sie et les États-Unis. Tous les sabreurs auront à cœur de briller avec un plateau très relevé emmené par le champion olympique en titre, le Hongrois Aron Szilagyi. Le club bas-rhinois du Souffel Escrime sera présent avec Vincent Anstett, vainqueur l’an dernier de la première étape mondiale à Dakar, Tom Seitz et Max Hartung, qui tirera sous les couleurs de l’Allemagne. Vincent Anstett aborde cette première compétition mondiale « avec beaucoup d’envie et peu de certi- tudes.
