TYRNER2 1Mendel University of Agriculture and Forestry, Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology, Brno, Czech Republic 2Litvínov Grammar School, Litvínov, Czech Republic ABSTRACT: The Hymenoptera (Aculeata) fauna was studied in birch stands (Betula pendula Roth) of colder areas of Northern Bohemia using the method of Moericke’s yellow traps. Altogether 159 species were trapped; the most important were Andrena lappona, Vespula vulgaris, Halictus sp., Trypoxylon minus and Vespula rufa. Only 12.7% of the species are widely spread in this ecosystem type. In 1990–1994 and in 1995–1999 we compared the abundance of the fauna and discovered that many species of the families Apidae and Sphecidae receded from the birch stands due to changing site conditions (light, weed infestation). Disregarding uncertain identifications, 220 species are now known from Britain and Ireland, comprising 91 Cynipidae (including two established non-natives), 127 Figitidae and two Ibaliidae. New information One replacement name is proposed, Kleidotoma thomsoni Forshage, for the secondary homonym Kleidotoma tetratoma Thomson, 1861 (nec K. tetratoma (Hartig, 1841)). © Forshage M et al. November 2007 The Subfamilies Eulophinae, Entedoninae and Tetrastichinae in Iran, with description of new species (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae) Zoya YEFREMOVA, Ebrahim EBRAHIMI & Ekaterina YEGORENKOVA Abstract This paper reflects the current degree of research of Eulophidae and their hosts in Iran. A list of the species from Iran belonging to the subfamilies Eulophinae, Entedoninae and Tetrastichinae is presented. In the present work 47 species from 22 genera are recorded from Iran. Two species (Cirrospilus scapus sp. nov. and Aprostocetus persicus sp. nov.) are described as new. A list of 45 host-parasitoid associations in Iran and keys to Iranian species of three genera (Cirrospilus, Diglyphus and Aprostocetus) are included. Zusammenfassung Dieser Artikel zeigt den derzeitigen Untersuchungsstand an eulophiden Wespen und ihrer Wirte im Iran. Eine Liste der für den Iran festgestellten Arten der Unterfamilien Eu- lophinae, Entedoninae und Tetrastichinae wird präsentiert. Mit vorliegender Arbeit werden 47 Arten in 22 Gattungen aus dem Iran nachgewiesen. Zwei neue Arten (Cirrospilus sca- pus sp. nov. und Aprostocetus persicus sp. nov.) werden beschrieben. Eine Liste von 45 Wirts- und Parasitoid-Beziehungen im Iran und ein Schlüssel für 3 Gattungen (Cirro- spilus, Diglyphus und Aprostocetus) sind in der Arbeit enthalten. -

Licence number AL 100020327 Fair Wood formerly extended further to the east and south, with a scattering of tall trees denoting its former extent. However, these areas have now lost their woodland character, with the LoWS now being restricted to the remaining core habitat. Within the remaining fragment, Pedunculate Oak (Quercus robur) and Hornbeam (Carpinus betulus) coppice dominates over a ground flora comprising Bramble (Rubus fruticosus), Creeping Thistle (Cirsium arvense) and Red Campion (Silene dioica). An old rubbish dump area, formerly excluded from the LoWS has been replanted and is now incorporated into the Site. Ownership and Access The Site is assumed to lie within the ownership of the adjacent horse race track organisation and has no public access. It can be viewed from Moulsham Hall Lane. Condition Statement Declining Management Issues Since the last review, this wood has undergone erosion of habitat around its margins, with conversion to a parkland style habitat with oak trees over a grass sward to the south of the entrance security hut. -

.. Conopid Recording Scheme [NCDRPORAT[NG 1HE LONatOPTEIUDA£ STIJDY GROUP Newsletter No.6 June 1995 Further disruption during 1994/95 continues to keep me fully occupied. A change of employers has meant a return to Cardiff after an absence of more than 10 years, with all the upheaval that entails. A house-move and change of address will occur in the near future (I hope!), but in the meantime all correspondence should continue to be sent to my Cirencester address. The bulk of this newsletter comprises a set of draft keys to the British fauna, prepared originally for the conopid and larger Brachycera identification workshop at Preston Montford earlier this year, and incorporating useful comments arising at that time. These keys include reference to the more likely of the potential additional species from the European fauna, many of which are very simiJar to recognised British species. I have not attempted to include these within the keys, but have instead given details of 'alert characteristics' which, if noticed, should serve to mark out the specimen concerned as needing further investigation as a poss~ble addition. Many of the potential additions are very widespread in Europe, but would almost certainly be overlooked by recorders relying on current British keys. Any comments on the success or failings of these keys would be gratefully received, as would sight of any specimens which don't fit, or which exhibit any of the noted 'alert characteristics•. All recorders are urged especially to be on the look out for Conops vitellinus, which looks very much like our C quadrifsciatus. -

Sinclair Submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy University of Edinburgh 2011 1 Declaration This thesis is submitted to the University of Edinburgh in accordance with the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the College of Science and Engineering. Aspects of the presented work were made possible by collaboration and data sharing with individuals and institutions, details of which are presented below. Chapter 2. The French National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA) provided various phenotypic and genotypic data from oak provenance trials that are under their management. All presented analyses of these data are my own. Chapter 3. INRA allowed access to their established oak provenance trial at the forest of Petite Charnie in Sarthe, Northwest France. Insect surveys at the trial were conducted by me, and by volunteers under my supervision. All presented analyses of these data are my own. Chapter 4. Insect specimens were collected by me from the oak provenance trial at Petite Charnie with the permission of INRA. Approximately 1/3 of DNA extractions and PCR reactions were conducted by Konrad Lohse, Julja Ernst, and Juan Carlos Ruiz Guajardo. All presented analyses are my own. Chapter 5. Insect specimens were sourced from the Stone laboratory collections at the University of Edinburgh. Unpublished DNA sequence data from 6 parasitoid individuals were provided by Konrad Lohse. All presented analysis of this data is my own. Unless otherwise stated, the remaining work and content of this thesis are entirely my own. -

INTRODUCTION 1.1 We would like to get your views on future development and planning of Thurrock to 2021. A new system of “Spatial Planning” has been introduced that goes beyond traditional land-use planning and seeks to integrate the various uses of land with the various activities that people use land for. The new spatial plans must involve wider community consultation and involvement and be based on principles of sustainable development. 1.2 The main over-arching document within the LDF portfolio is the Core Strategy. This sets out the vision, objectives and strategy for the development of the whole area of the borough. The Site Specific Allocations and Policies is very important as it underpins the delivery of the Core Strategy. It enables the public to be consulted on the various specific site proposals that will guide development in accordance with the Core Strategy. 1.3 Many policies in the plans will be implemented through the day-to-day control of development through consideration of planning applications. This document also looks at the range of such Development Control policies that might be needed.
