Neben den rund 40 Studioalben, die er mit seiner Band in wechselnder Besetzung aufnahm, produzierte er ähnliche viele Soloplatten, auf denen er von elektronischem Krach über Folk, Kinderlieder, Progressive Rock bis zu herzzerreißenden Balladen das komplette populärmusikalische Spektrum abdeckt. Von den vielen Kollaborationen wollen wir gar nicht erst anfangen. Amanda Palmer ist ebenfalls eine enorm umtriebige Person. Sie ist ein Teil der Dresden Dolls, diesem Duo, in dem sie zusammen mit Brian Viglione reichlich eigenständige Musik macht. Von Zeit zu Zeit nimmt sie sehr spezielle Cover- Versionen auf, von Leonard Cohen über Death Cab For Cutie und Prince bis hin zu Kimya Dawson. Ihre EP „Amanda Palmer Performs The Popular Hits Of Radiohead On Her Magical Ukulele“ ist ein (fast) ironiefreies Meisterwerk. Von Zeit zu Zeit produziert sie fantastische Alben mit fantastischem Inhalt, wie ihr Solo-Debüt „Who Killed Amanda Palmer“, begleitet von einem Buch und Texten ihres Ehemanns Neil Gaiman. Zusammen haben Amanda Palmer und Edward Ka-Spel die Platte „I Can Spin A Rainbow“ aufgenommen – endlich, möchte man fast sagen, kommen diese beiden unabhängigen musikalischen Geister zusammen. Und nicht nur das: Gemeinsam mit dem Violinisten Patrick Q. Wright – ebenfalls von den Pink Dots – kommt das unorthodoxe Gothic-Duo auf Tour. „Besucht uns bei unseren intimen Konzerten“, fordert Palmer ihre Fans auf, „wir singen Stücke aus dem Album, ich singe ein paar meiner Songs, Edward seine, und natürlich auch ein paar alte Sachen zusammen.
