Rich's Notes: the Ten Doctors: a Graphic Novel by Rich Morris 51 The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 3 51 Rich's Notes: The Daleks struggle with the paradox of having more than one Doctor on the ship at once, when they let slip a secret. Presuming there to only be one REAL Doctor, they decide the 4th Doctor to be real, the 9th Doctor to be an imposter, and mistake the 6th Doctor for “The Keeper”. The 6th Doctor plays along. The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 3 52 Rich's Notes: The Daleks, delighted to have their confusion addressed with reasonable explanations that suit their unique view of the universe, settle down to some comforting obeying of orders. They just don't realize it's their #1 enemy giving those orders. And some of those orders are just a tiny bit against their natures... but they'll listen. For the time being. Meanwhile the 6th Doctor leaps into the role with both feet. The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 3 53 Rich's Notes: The Supreme Dalek (design based on that from “Planet of the Daleks”) comes out to confirm the identity of the Keeper, but the clever 6th Doctor turns the tables on it and takes over the interrogation. The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 3 54 Rich's Notes: While being led to their holding areas, the 4th and 9th Doctors co-ordinate their efforts and make a daring escape! The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 3 55 Rich's Notes: In his search for K9, the 4th Doctor finds an empty data processing lab. Meanwhile the 9th Doctor gets himself caught in a Dalek crossfire! The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 3 56 Rich's Notes: The 9th Doctor dodges a bullet -so to speak- but realizes that he now faces certain death at the ‘hands’ of the Daleks. That is, until he is mysteriously rescued by an old friend… The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 3 57 Rich's Notes: The 9th Doctor learns how his old college classmate Drax found him. Meanwhile… back in the Rani’s TARDIS… The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 3 58 Rich's Notes: Romana attempts to organize the companions into some kind of resistance force. Meanwhile the Rani learns more than she cared to about the Cybermen and makes a deal with them. The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 3 59 Rich's Notes: The Rani begins to push her luck with an increasingly desperate Cyberleader. Meanwhile the companions have formulated a plan and Ace is ready to do some damage. The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 3 60 Rich's Notes: While snooping around the Cybercomplex under the warehouse, Sarah Jane Smith discovers the Rani’s TARDIS which opens up and emits black smoke and coughing passengers. She recognizes Tegan and Turlough (From “The Five Doctors”), but it is K9 who recognizes his former mistress, Romana. How, you may ask, does he do that, exactly? Well, it is known that all the 9 units the Doctor made were based off the memories of the previous one. Since the timing of the spinoff show “K9 and Company” would indicate that the Doctor made SJ’s K9 after the events of “Warrior’s Gate”, (and that K9 mark IV in “School Reunion”-the one appearing in this comic- was based off of SJ’s mark III… somehow…), that it remembers everything we saw. It remembers Leela from mark I’s memory up to the time it left the TARDIS with her on Gallifrey (”The Invisible Enemy” to “The Invasion of Time”), Romana 1 & 2 from mark II’s memory up until the time it left the TARDIS with her in E-Space (”The Ribos Operation” to “Warrior’s Gate”), and all of the time mark III spent with Sarah Jane between “K9 & Company” up to “School Reunion”. The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 3 61 Rich's Notes: The cybermen attack! As Romana tries to usher everyone to their safety, she is struck by a cyberman blaster. K9 and Jamie avenge her. The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 3 62 Rich's Notes: Jamie and Sarah Jane gather up Romana and make for the nearest exit. Meanwhile the Cybermen and the Rani betray each other, and as the Rani makes her escape via transmat beam, white Daleks beam in and threaten the Cybermen! The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 3 63 Rich's Notes: Team 1, made up of companions Turlough, Jo, Zoe and Susan, stop when they notice that Romana isn’t behind them. Jo and Turlough briefly argue over whether to go back and rescue Romana or continue on their mission to secure the Rani’s TARDIS, finally agreeing to do the latter and go back for her after. Team 2, made up of companions Tegan, Peri, Ace and Rose, stop when they notice that Jamie isn’t with them. The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 3 64 Rich's Notes: Ace decides to go back and rescue Jamie. Rose goes, too. Tegan and Peri continue on their mission to find a way out and get help. While Ace sets up to destroy a cyberman, she is nearly attacked from behind, but Rose jumps out and saves her, pushing the cyberman out into the other corridor, where both it and the other are EXTERMINATED by a white Dalek. The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 3 65 Rich's Notes: Ace & Rose recover from their near miss and discuss moving on options. Meanwhile the Daleks deliver their ultimatum to the Cybermen. The 7th Doctor and Davros look on. The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 3 66 Rich's Notes: Davros explains to the 7th Doctor why he is having his imperial Daleks take over the Earthbound Cybermen, which ultimately will turn Earth into the new Skaro. The Doctor is shocked and his emotional reaction carries onto his next incarnation, who feels this strong emotional response to a newly acquired memory. The 8th Doctor is hiking outside of the Time Lord’s citadel on Gallifrey, unaware that he is being stalked by a dark figure with a pointy thing. The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 3 67 Rich's Notes: The 8th Doctor climbs up to a cave in a mountian, but gets attacked by a mysterious old woman. And old woman who turns out to be Leela and her best friend, K9 mark 1! (Like you didn’t see THAT coming) The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 3 68 Rich's Notes: The 8th Doctor gets Leela to tell about her life on Gallifrey and what changes have happened recently. It seems that when the tribunal returned (from “Trial of a Time Lord”) things started to go to pot. Which is a shock, because things weren’t all that wonderful beforehand either. The 8th Doctor is starting to clue in. The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 3 69 Rich's Notes: The 8th Doctor sums up the events of “Trial of a Time Lord” for Leela, and ponders the possibility of the Valeyard having survived, just as his old mentor, the hermit K’Anpo Rimpoche, still in his 3rd incarnation aka. Cho’Je, steps out of his old cave. The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 3 70 Rich's Notes: The 10th Doctor skulks about in the corridors in the archives section of Gallifrey. He runs into Damon, who surprisingly doesn’t recognize him. At all. Deciding it isn’t worth pursuing, he informs Damon that he’s looking for the Doctor and Damon asks him to give him a message. That’s when Maxil shows up and shoots Damon with a staser. The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 3 71 Rich's Notes: Maxil doesn’t recognize the 10th Doctor, and, assuming he’s some archivist, plans to blame him for the death of Damon. However, Maxil is in turn shot and falls unconscious or dead into the Doctor’s arms, shot by none other than the Meddling Monk. Who DOES recognize the Doctor’s 10th incarnation. The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 3 72 Rich's Notes: The first Doctor runs into the Lady President who clearly doesn’t recognize him. The Doctor finds this very odd, and asks if she’s seen himself around somewhere. He learns that the 8th Doctor has gone out of the citadel. The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 3 73 Rich's Notes: The 3rd and 5th Doctors meet with the Master and find out that he wants them to ‘bless’ his plan to unite the various races of the Federation, allied or otherwise and lead them in a battle against the Daleks. The 5th Doctor can find no fault in it. The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 3 74 Rich's Notes: The Master introduces the 3rd and 5th Doctors to the mastermind of the battle planning committee, none other than the War Chief. The old renegade himself is none too thrilled to see the Doctor again. The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 3 75 Rich's Notes: Meanwhile in a pocket universe somewhere between matter and anti-matter, Omega confronts the Celestial Toymaker about his progress in this big mysterious plan of theirs.

2019 Gally Academic Track Friday, February 15, 2019 3:00-3:15 KEYNOTE “The Fandom Hierarchy: Women of Color’s Fight For Visibility In Fandom Spaces” Tai Gooden Women of Color (WoC) have been fervent Doctor Who fans for several decades. However, the fandom often reflects societal hierarchies upheld by White privilege that result in ignoring and diminishing WoC’s opinions, contributions, and legitimate concerns about issues in terms of representation. Additionally, WoC and non-binary (NB) people of color’s voices are not centered as often in journalism, podcasting, and media formats nor convention panels as much as their White counterparts. This noticeable disparity has led to many WoC, even those who are deemed “important” in fandom spaces, to encounter racism, sexism, and, depending on the individual, homophobia and transphobia in a place that is supposed to have open availability to everyone. I can attest to this experience as someone who has a somewhat heightened level of visibility in fandom as a pop culture/entertainment writer who extensively covers Doctor Who. This presentation will examine women of color in the Doctor Who fandom in terms of their interactions with non-POC fans and difficulties obtaining opportunities in media, online, and at conventions. The show’s representation of fandom and the necessity for equity versus equality will also be discussed to craft a better understanding of how to tackle this pervasive issue. Other actionable solutions to encourage intersectionality in the fandom will be discussed including privileged people listening to WoC and non- binary people’s concerns/suggestions, respectfully interacting with them online and in person, recognizing and utilizing their privilege to encourage more inclusivity, standing in solidarity with them on critical issues, and lending their support to WoC creatives.

DOCTOR WHO - it's a question and a statement... Compiled by James Deacon [2013] http://aetw.org/omega.html DOCTOR WHO - it's a Question, and a Statement ... Every now and then, I read comments from Whovians about how the programme is called: "Doctor Who" - and how you shouldn't write the title as: "Dr. Who". Also, how the central character is called: "The Doctor", and should not be referred to as: "Doctor Who" (or "Dr. Who" for that matter) But of course, the Truth never quite that simple As the Evidence below will show... * * * * * * * http://aetw.org/omega.html THE PROGRAMME Yes, the programme is titled: "Doctor Who", but from the very beginning – in fact from before the beginning, the title has also been written as: “DR WHO”. From the BBC Archive Original 'treatment' (Proposal notes) for the 1963 series: Source: http://www.bbc.co.uk/archive/doctorwho/6403.shtml?page=1 http://aetw.org/omega.html And as to the central character ... Just as with the programme itself - from before the beginning, the central character has also been referred to as: "DR. WHO". [From the same original proposal document:] http://aetw.org/omega.html In the BBC's own 'Radio Times' TV guide (issue dated 14 November 1963), both the programme and the central character are called: "Dr. Who" On page 7 of the BBC 'Radio Times' TV guide (issue dated 21 November 1963) there is a short feature on the new programme: Again, the programme is titled: "DR. WHO" "In this series of adventures in space and time the title-role [i.e.

  • Sociopathetic Abscess Or Yawning Chasm? the Absent Postcolonial Transition In
Sociopathetic abscess or yawning chasm? The absent postcolonial transition in Doctor Who Lindy A Orthia The Australian National University, Canberra, Australia Abstract This paper explores discourses of colonialism, cosmopolitanism and postcolonialism in the long-running television series, Doctor Who. Doctor Who has frequently explored past colonial scenarios and has depicted cosmopolitan futures as multiracial and queer- positive, constructing a teleological model of human history. Yet postcolonial transition stages between the overthrow of colonialism and the instatement of cosmopolitan polities have received little attention within the program. This apparent ‘yawning chasm’ — this inability to acknowledge the material realities of an inequitable postcolonial world shaped by exploitative trade practices, diasporic trauma and racist discrimination — is whitewashed by the representation of past, present and future humanity as unchangingly diverse; literally fixed in happy demographic variety. Harmonious cosmopolitanism is thus presented as a non-negotiable fact of human inevitability, casting instances of racist oppression as unnatural blips. Under this construction, the postcolonial transition needs no explication, because to throw off colonialism’s chains is merely to revert to a more natural state of humanness, that is, cosmopolitanism. Only a few Doctor Who stories break with this model to deal with the ‘sociopathetic abscess’ that is real life postcolonial modernity. Key Words Doctor Who, cosmopolitanism, colonialism, postcolonialism, race, teleology, science fiction This is the submitted version of a paper that has been published with minor changes in The Journal of Commonwealth Literature, 45(2): 207-225. 1 1. Introduction Zargo: In any society there is bound to be a division. The rulers and the ruled.

Doctor Who fans in the s and s were a pretty devoted lot. It's a magnificent illustration of why I despise multi-part storytelling with a passion. Davros has activated the long-dormant Doctor Who: Nemesis of the Daleks army hidden there, converting them to the white and gold colour scheme applied to the Daleks he created on the planet Necros in Revelation of the Daleks. Doctor Who Magazine — The longer pieces were better, especially 'Train Flight' and 'Nemesis'. It was interesting to see some elements similar to later TV plots - for instance the idea of a planetary library this time infested with bugs rather than the more scary Vashta Neradaa graveyard of the Tardises and a Time Lord killer - and in 'Who's That Girl' there appears to be a female Doctor.
