Rich's Notes: 1 Chapter 1 the Ten Doctors: a Graphic Novel by Rich The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 1 1 Rich's Notes: The 10th (and current) Doctor goes to The Eye of Orion (the Five Doctors) to reflect after the events of The Runaway Bride. He meets up with his previous incarnation, the 9th Doctor and Rose, here exploring the Eye of Orion sometime between the events of Father’s Day and The Empty Child. The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 1 2 Rich's Notes: The 9th and 10th Doctors and Rose stumble upon the 7th Doctor and Ace, who we join at some point between Dimensions in Time and The Enemy Within(aka. The Fox Movie) You’ll notice the style of the drawings changing a bit from page to page as I struggle to settle on a realism vs. cartoony feel for this comic. Hopefully it’ll settle soon. And hopefully none of you will give a rat’s bottom. The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 1 3 Rich's Notes: The 10th Doctor, in order to keep the peace, attempts to explain the situation to Ace and Rose. Ace, however, has an advantage. She's seen some of the Doctor's previous incarnations in a strange time trap set up by the Rani (The 30th Anniversary special: Dimensions in Time, which blew chunks). The 2nd Doctor arrives, seemingly already understanding the situation, accompanied by Jamie and Zoe. (The 2nd Doctor arrives from some curious timeline not fully explained by the TV series. Presumably his onscreen regeneration was a farce and he was employed by the Time Lords for a time to run missions for them before they finally changed him into the 3rd Doctor. We see this canon-challenging timeline in The Three Doctors, The Five Doctors, and The Two Doctors. He is able to steer the TARDIS and is working FOR the Time Lords. He has also been able to pick up a few of his old companions during this time, including Jamie, Victoria and (in this case, anyway) Zoe. Who DO remember him after all!) The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 1 4 Rich's Notes: The 2nd Doctor’s arrival naturally heralds that of the 3rd (and his companion, Jo, arriving sometime between The Planet of the Daleks and The Green Death) and the two resume their arguing. Jo, of course, has no problem quickly accepting that these are all different Doctors, after all, she’s seen it all before (The Three Doctors). Rose, however, is taking this a little hard and Ace has no time for babies. While chaos reigns and confusion begins to really settle in, the 10th Doctor is really starting to feel the effects of his Time Line being meddled with somehow, and his emotions begin to take their toll. The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 1 5 Rich's Notes: The 10th Doctor attempts to get a grip with his wierd emotional and temporal displacement rushes and gets some assistance from the 5th Doctor, probably the most empathic of his previous incarnations. The 5th Doctor and his companions, Tegan and Turlough are fresh from The Five Doctors, fleeing from Gallifrey so the Doctor doesn’t have to take office as Lord President, and already familiar with at least 3 of his other incarnations. (Editor's Note: This strip, originally published on March 17th, 2007, was drawn a full eight months before Time Crash aired.) The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 1 6 Rich's Notes: While the 3rd and 7th Doctors have a little talk with the 9th Doctor about some interesting choices he’s made recently, the 6th Doctor (who’s somewhere between Revelation of the Daleks and Trial of a Time Lord part 1: The Mysterious Planet) shows up in time to be indignant, (*gasp*, no!) and the 1st Doctor arrives in time to start making sense of it all. Incidently, the 1st Doctor has been plucked from a time before the original 1963 pilot episode An Unearthly Child. The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 1 7 Rich's Notes: The 1st Doctor uses his natural commanding nature to make the other Doctors explain what is going on. The 2nd Doctor tries to break the news gently, but the 3rd Doctor has to clarify. Rose has a major flip-out when she discovers that the Doctor has a FAMILY somewhere, somewhen. Some of this requires a bit of explanation. The 1st Doctor has come in from shortly before the pilot of the original series. It wasn’t until he and Susan landed and stayed in 1960’s England before the series that the TARDIS chameleon circuit broke down. So he doesn’t immediately recognize the Police Box TARDISes of all his successors. He knows they’re Time Lords, that’s all. He figures he’s been ‘caught’. (The Doctor claims to have left Gallifrey on the run because he was bored. But we learn later that there’s far more to his history then he’s implied. Depends how much of it we take seriously, though. He must have, at one time, been a very important figure). The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 1 8 Rich's Notes: Various companions make various comments to various Doctors, and the chaos is quelled by the commanding tones of the 1st Doctor who starts to take charge. Just then, the 4th Doctor with Romana & K9 (From somewhere between Shada and The Leisure Hive) arrive. The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 1 9 Rich's Notes: The 4th Doctor sends Romana off to occupy the companions while the 1st Doctor tries to start making sense of the situation. The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 1 10 Rich's Notes: The Doctors sound off and the 5th Doctor notices that 8 is missing. The 9th and 10th Doctors realize that they have a hole in their memories pertaining to the 8th Doctor. The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 1 11 Rich's Notes: Meanwhile, the 8th Doctor (some time after The Enemy Within - aka The Fox Movie) has gone to his home planet, Gallifrey, ostensibly to have his TARDIS checked over by the real experts, but also to catch up with the latest President of the High Council. She, however, knows the Doctor all too well... - by reputation, apparently - and predicts his next words. Creator's note: The Lady President here is the first completely original character in this comic. She's not based on anyone from the series. This is taking place during 8th Doctor's lifespan which was never televised (and for simplicity's sake, I'm not using any novels or comics or short stories or anything else as my source material... except the novelization of the Fox film which fits the Doctor Who canon a little better) and so there is no reference for what went on at this time. So I've given myself a lot of leeway. The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 1 12 Rich's Notes: The 8th Doctor is concerned because very little has been going on. He automatically suspects that something big is on the way. The Calm Before the Storm. The Lord President, on the other hand, isn’t so concerned. The Time Lords never are. The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 1 13 Rich's Notes: The Lord President loses patience with the 8th Doctor and sends him off to wait for the repairs of his TARDIS and suggests he be off while she’s still feeling generous. Meanwhile, a technician enters the Doctor’s TARDIS. The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 1 14 Rich's Notes: Strange bio-pattern-like energy shoots out from deep within the heart of the TARDIS’ core and envelops the technician, forcing him to regenerate while he gets taken over by the life force of the Master! (Master to be redesigned later. This one blows!) The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 1 15 Rich's Notes: The Doctors discuss the possibilities of what must have caused the temporal wierdness. The first Doctor takes charge. The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 1 16 Rich's Notes: While Romana keeps the companions busy with convoluted explanations of basic temporal theory 101, the 10th Doctor explains to the 1st why there might be some problems with the TARDISes in this time line. The others show some concern. The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 1 17 Rich's Notes: The Master slips out of the TARDIS, and steals a new one. The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 1 18 Rich's Notes: The 4th Doctor and K9 investigate 10’s claim that the TARDISes will be powerless. The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 1 19 Rich's Notes: The 4th and 7th Doctors rejoin the others who are trying to come up with solutions. 4 points out what should be the obvious solution. (Reference: Remembrance of the Daleks) The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 1 20 Rich's Notes: The 8th Doctor has discovered something that he believes will convince the President of Gallifrey to take him more seriously. But Commander Maxil of the Chancillary guard blocks his way.

    2019 Gally Academic Track Friday, February 15, 2019 3:00-3:15 KEYNOTE “The Fandom Hierarchy: Women of Color’s Fight For Visibility In Fandom Spaces” Tai Gooden Women of Color (WoC) have been fervent Doctor Who fans for several decades. However, the fandom often reflects societal hierarchies upheld by White privilege that result in ignoring and diminishing WoC’s opinions, contributions, and legitimate concerns about issues in terms of representation. Additionally, WoC and non-binary (NB) people of color’s voices are not centered as often in journalism, podcasting, and media formats nor convention panels as much as their White counterparts. This noticeable disparity has led to many WoC, even those who are deemed “important” in fandom spaces, to encounter racism, sexism, and, depending on the individual, homophobia and transphobia in a place that is supposed to have open availability to everyone. I can attest to this experience as someone who has a somewhat heightened level of visibility in fandom as a pop culture/entertainment writer who extensively covers Doctor Who. This presentation will examine women of color in the Doctor Who fandom in terms of their interactions with non-POC fans and difficulties obtaining opportunities in media, online, and at conventions. The show’s representation of fandom and the necessity for equity versus equality will also be discussed to craft a better understanding of how to tackle this pervasive issue. Other actionable solutions to encourage intersectionality in the fandom will be discussed including privileged people listening to WoC and non- binary people’s concerns/suggestions, respectfully interacting with them online and in person, recognizing and utilizing their privilege to encourage more inclusivity, standing in solidarity with them on critical issues, and lending their support to WoC creatives.

In most accounts there are thirty emanations in fifteen complementary pairs, each getting slightly less of the divine material and therefore being slightly weaker. The emanations are called Aeons (eternities) and are mostly named personifications in Greek of abstract ideas.

Things are going well and the 5th Doctor checks in with the 3rd to see how the battle is playing out. The 3rd Doctor confirms that all is well so far, but then gets a new set of signals. A massive fleet of Sontaran ships unexpectedly comes out of nowhere, an the Sontaran reveal a plot to eliminate the Daleks, the Federation fleet AND the Time Lords! The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 5 103 Rich's Notes: The 3rd Doctor is restrained by the Sontarans before he can warn the fleet. The 5th Doctor tries as well, but the Master has jammed his signal. The Master explains how he plans to use his new, augmented Sontarans to take over the universe. The Ten Doctors: A Graphic Novel by Rich Morris Chapter 5 104 Rich's Notes: Mistaking the Sontarans as surprise allies hoping to gain the lion’s share of the glory, the Draconian Ambassador and the Ice Warrior general move to greet them as befits their honour and station. But they get a nasty surprise when the Sontarans attack them.     Sociopathetic abscess or yawning chasm? The absent postcolonial transition in Doctor Who Lindy A Orthia The Australian National University, Canberra, Australia Abstract This paper explores discourses of colonialism, cosmopolitanism and postcolonialism in the long-running television series, Doctor Who. Doctor Who has frequently explored past colonial scenarios and has depicted cosmopolitan futures as multiracial and queer- positive, constructing a teleological model of human history. Yet postcolonial transition stages between the overthrow of colonialism and the instatement of cosmopolitan polities have received little attention within the program. This apparent ‘yawning chasm’ — this inability to acknowledge the material realities of an inequitable postcolonial world shaped by exploitative trade practices, diasporic trauma and racist discrimination — is whitewashed by the representation of past, present and future humanity as unchangingly diverse; literally fixed in happy demographic variety. Harmonious cosmopolitanism is thus presented as a non-negotiable fact of human inevitability, casting instances of racist oppression as unnatural blips. Under this construction, the postcolonial transition needs no explication, because to throw off colonialism’s chains is merely to revert to a more natural state of humanness, that is, cosmopolitanism. Only a few Doctor Who stories break with this model to deal with the ‘sociopathetic abscess’ that is real life postcolonial modernity.
