These notes are based upon 3 meetings on the 11th March 2016. This document will ultimately form an appendix to the final report for ‘The Operator’s Story’ piece. Although the findings have been arranged and structured by Imperial College London, they remain a collation of thoughts and statements from interviewees, and continue to be the opinions of those interviewed, rather than of Imperial College London. Prefacing the notes is a summary of Imperial College’s key findings based on comments made, which will be drawn out further in the final report for ‘The Operator’s Story’. Method This content is a collation in note form of views expressed in the interviews that were conducted for this study. This mini case study does not attempt to provide a comprehensive picture of Guangzhou Metropolitan Corporation (GMC), but rather focuses on specific topics of interest to The Operators’ Story project. The EZWCTS is being developed to transform Fujian into an economic hub that not only connects the economic powerhouses of the Pearl River Delta and the Yangtze River Delta, but also serves as a springboard to bring overseas investments into Western and Central China. Project Description Map of the Project Area Chongqing Monorail Line 2 1.1 Background Under its policies of reform and openness China has been achieving economic growth averaging about 10% per year. On the other hand, along with the economic progress, urban development, and rising living standards brought about by the reforms and opening up, problems caused by the underdevelopment of urban infrastructure in major cities have surfaced. As a result, traffic congestion and air pollution were becoming increasingly serious. Chongqing City is located in the eastern part of the Sichuan basin on the upper reaches of the Chang River. In 1997 the city became the fourth directly-controlled municipality in China following Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin. After Chongqing City became the directly-controlled municipality, the city began actively promoting introduction of foreign investment and becoming a driving force for economic development in inland regions of China. However, along with the economic development, traffic congestion became much worse in the central city areas1, impeding the functionality of the city, while air pollution increased due to exhaust gas from automobiles, leading to a worsening of the living environment. The situation reached a point where transportation via roads was being inhibited due to the terrain of Chongqing City and the condition of the existing city areas. Preprints (www.preprints.org) | NOT PEER-REVIEWED | Posted: 12 September 2020 Spatial Construction, Form and Effectiveness Analysis of Large-scale Waterfront Park System in Island-type Cities ——The case of Xiamen, China SANGXIAOLEI Chih-Hong Huang Abstract: The bay is a space barrier for the development of island-type cities and a high-quality waterfront landscape resource. This study takes Xiamen a typical island city in China as an example. First, It use the method of satellite telemetry technology combined with GIS software and spatial syntax, respectively, from the material space level and social space level, to summarize the rapid urbanization process of this city since 1990-2018, focusing on the construction process of three large-scale waterfront park systems in the transition period of inter-island development in it, and comparing the similarities and differences of their spatial forms. Further, from the choice of the axis model and the integrated analysis results, we discuss the spatial efficiency changes. The construction of the three major bay waterfront park systems in this city reflects a huge change in development pattern from lagging construction, synchronous planning, to advanced layout, providing a continuous and variable spatial form for the development of the bay region and improving space efficiency, which one of the important ways to develop and transform island-type cities. We hope to provide the reference for the development including sustainable development of other island cities around the world.
