At the invitation of the German Federal Cultural Foundation, high-ranking philosophers, artists, social scientists and computer programmers will address the pressing questions of our time on three stages at the Berlin Volksbühne. What politically emancipatory strategies could counteract the control mechanisms of a security society? Do we need stronger democratic supervision of protected spaces? Is the desire for a private sphere merely regressive escapism or can it truly lead to greater freedom? How do we reconcile new forms of privacy with digitally aided practices of political participation? What action should we, as citizens, take? On the opening day, the participants will address the main narrative of the conference in three steps. In the Critique of Wakefulness the conference will take issue with the fight against institutions of a security society. The problem is that the civil sector, demanding more transparency, appears to be reverting to the same security-based means to achieve it. In the Politics of Sleep the discussion will focus on and illuminate the problematic nature of free and protected spaces where one can withdraw and de-net- work. And finally, the participants will reassess what Freedom in the Age of the Network truly means and discuss ›security by the people for the people‹. On the second day, the main narrative continues in the form of meta-com- mentaries, excursus and epilogues based on the slogans Becoming Sleepers and It Is Time for New Openings .

The Program Committee, consisting of members of both societies under the leadership of Wendy Heller, will shortly begin the process of selecting papers for the conference sessions. Concerts will include performances of Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610 and Handel’s Judas Maccabaeus, and Nicholas McGegan, Honorary Member of the AHS Board of Directors, has agreed to give the Howard Serwer Memorial Lecture. Members of the AHS will have been saddened to hear of the death on September 24, 2014 of Christopher Hogwood, founder and longtime conductor of the Academy of Ancient Music and artistic director of the Handel & Haydn Society of Boston from 1986-2001. Active as both a performer and scholar, he will be particularly remembered by Handelians for his 1984 biography of the composer and for his numerous recordings of Handel’s music. Vater: Walter Lein (1893–1972), Mitarbeiter der Reichsbahn; Mutter: Elsa (1894–1971); Geschwister: Marianne (1922–2006); Helmut Seydelmann (1901–1962), Dirigent, Generalmusikdirektor am Theater der Stadt Leipzig und am Gewandhausorchester, Generalmusikdirektor der Deutschen Staatsoper Berlin; 2. 1967 Wolfgang Kramer, Obermedizinalrat; Tochter: Claudia-Alexa, Dolmetscherin. C. gehörte zu den versiertesten Bühnentänzerinnen der Nachkriegszeit. Dabei beherrschte sie den Ausdruckstanz ebenso wie das Repertoire des Klassischen Balletts. Aus der Tradition von Mary Wigman sowie Tatjana Gsovsky kommend, tanzte sie ihre Rollen mit perfektionistischer Genauigkeit und lyrischem Ausdruck. Dabei begründete C. die Tradition des dramatischen Balletts in Leipzig. Ihr Werk lebt nicht zuletzt in dem nach ihr benannten Sächsischen Tanzpreis weiter. – C. besuchte ab ihrem elften Lebensjahr die Vorbereitungsklassen an Wigmans Schule für modernen Tanz in Dresden und studierte 1942 bis 1944 Ausdruckstanz an der Tanz-Akademie des Dresdner Konservatoriums. Aufgrund einer Verletzung am Arm wurde C. nicht zum Kriegsdienst verpflichtet, sondern durfte die Kinderklassen der ehemaligen Wigman- Schule, der Tanz-Akademie Dresden, unterrichten. Nach Kriegsende setzte sie ihr Studium bei Dore Hoyer fort, die die Tanz-Akademie übernommen hatte. 1945 erhielt C. ein Diplom als Bühnentänzerin und Tanzpädagogin. 1945 bis 1948 war C. Mitglied der Dore-Hoyer-Gruppe und tanzte in dem Zyklus „Tänze für Käthe Kollwitz“ sowie den Choreografien „Lied der Zeit“ und „Schießbude“ mit. C. gehörte außerdem zum Dresdner Künstlerkreis um Hoyer, dem Persönlichkeiten wie Christel Goltz, Wilhelm Lachnit sowie Joseph Keilberth angehörten. Nach Auflösung der Tanz-Gruppe und dem Umzug Hoyers nach Hamburg ging C.

    УДК 159.922.27 Aldo Pita Dragomanov National Pedagogical University Institute of Arts Pet’ko Ludmyla, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Dragomanov National Pedagogical University The Development of Modern Dance The 20th century was a very important era for the development of the dance, the need of change allowed the arts to gain an incredible boost and total transformations giving place to new styles and techniques. Modern dance refused classical ballet's stress on feet as the primary catalyst for dance movements. It, instead, put stress on torso employing such elements as contact – release, floor work, fall and recovery, and improvisation. It was usually performed in bare feet, often with non – traditional costuming. The main artists that gave birth to this dance style were the Americans Loire Fuller (1862–1928), Isadora Duncan (1877–1927), Ruth St Denis (1879–1968) and Martha Graham (1894–1991), the Sweden Emile Jacques Dalcroze (1865–1950), the German Mary Wigman (1866–1973) and the Hungarian Rudolf von Laban (1879–1958). The postmodern dance occurred in the 1960s in United States when society questioned truths and ideologies in politics and art. The influences from different periods of dance became more vague and fragmented [1]. Contemporary dance today includes both concert and commercial dance because of the lines being blurred by pop culture and television shows. Martha Graham is often regarded as the founding mother of modern 20th – century concert dance. Graham developed her own dance technique that hinged on concepts of contraction and release. Her principal contributions to dance are the focus of the ‘center’ of the body, coordination between breathing and movement, and a dancer’s relationship with the floor.
