For advice and guidance on how to revise effectively: Phones used during lesson time will be confiscated https://tinyurl.com/yd87skro and parents may be asked to collect it from school. For Year 11 subject specific revision Headphones should also not be worn during the materials and useful links: school day. These will also be confiscated. https://tinyurl.com/y8zfr7yb We greatly appreciate your support. Attendance News May 2018 Congratulations to the following tutor group who have won our next fortnightly attendance competition. 2 New data protection laws (GDPR) This is the second in a series of articles about changes that we are making in response to the imminent changes of law in relation to data protection. Last week I wrote about emails and the basis on which we process data. This week's article is about something that will affect students directly. Although most of the changes we are making in response to GDPR are administrative and will not be noticed by most students, one area in which students will notice a definite change is that we will be phasing out the use of portable drives for storing files. This is happening for a variety of different reasons, and GDPR is simply the one which tipped the balance in favour of making a definite change. USB drives are notoriously unreliable and frequently lost by students; this is a big issue for students when they lose their coursework or crucial notes as they do with monotonous regularity USB drives are a potential source of transmission of malware and viruses. We have a reliable cloud drive service available to all students (Office 365’s OneDrive) which means they do not need USB drives to make their files portable; OneDrive is also properly backed up so that earlier versions of files can be recovered when needed. We want to ensure that we do everything we can to reduce or remove the possibility of data being lost by our staff. Our staff are not storing students’ personal data on their USB drives at the moment, but we want to remove the possibility of accidents happening and get everyone used to accessing OneDrive, so we will be taking steps to force this issue and by September the computers in school will not recognise USB drives when they are plugged in. Students and staff have the rest of the summer term to get used to working with OneDrive while still being able to use USB sticks. In September they will need to be using OneDrive as USB sticks will not work in school. Second hand-uniform day has changed to Fridays 1.30-3.00pm Could you spare an hour during the week to help run the second hand uniform shop? If so, please contact Mr Vincent on [email protected] Do you have any uniform or PE kit you could donate? If so, please drop it into reception. Arriving on time for school is practice for when they progress into the world of work. Although the vast majority of students do arrive in good time, a small number have recently arrived late for form time. Students are now being detained by ‘late gate’ if they arrive in school later than the form time bell. This means that students must be in school before 8.45am. The main entrance will be open until 9.05am with all other entrances to the school site locked at 8.45am. Students therefore need to be setting off earlier and ensuring they arrive on time before 8.45am and should aim to be in the building by 8.40am. Thank you in advance for your support. 4 Mental Health Awareness Week 14th - 20th May Hosted by the Mental Health Foundation, this year for Mental Health Awareness Week, the focus is on stress. Research has shown that two thirds of us experience a mental health problem in our lifetimes, and stress is a key factor in this. By tackling stress, we can go a long way to tackle mental health problems such as anxiety and depression, and, in some instances, self-harm and suicide. Click on this link for advice and guidance from the Mental Health Foundation: https://www.mentalhealth.org.uk/campaigns/mental-health-awareness-week This topic will be discussed in form time next week. For further information on school based advice guidance, students should speak to their form tutor, student manager or visit the Wellbeing Hub. Year 11 students showcased their excellent examination choreography work and revisited an exciting version of ‘You can’t stop the Beat’ from Hairspray the Musical. The BTEC Year 10 students demonstrated choreography from the contemporary piece ‘A Linha Curva’ and in contrast, the zombie-based movements of Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’. The afternoon was open to all Year 12 and Year 13 students, giving them the opportunity to meet a number of representatives from both internal and external activity providers. This is a key part of the Sixth Form’s ‘powerful curriculum’ offer which encourages students to engage in enrichment activities outside of their academic study. There were an incredible amount of opportunities available to students with external providers including NCS, Royal British Legion, Wilmslow Talking Newspaper and The Chamber of Commerce Employment Readiness programme, with internal offerings such as Bar Mock Trial, Young Enterprise, Model United Nations and an array of sports teams, to name just a few. Mrs Finemore-Lunn, Year 13 Student Manager and co-organiser of the Opportunities Fair said, “This year’s Fair had a real buzz; it was very pleasing to see the Sports Hall full of students excited at the prospect of getting involved with such a wide variety of activities. We are very proud of Sixth Form students who are always so giving of their time and committed to developing their skills, helping others and broadening their horizons”.

  • High Notes Summer Highlights
WILMSLOW HIGH SCHOOL The pursuit of excellence for every student, every day SUMMER 2019 ISSUE Autumn 2018 Issue HIGH NOTES SUMMER HIGHLIGHTS A summary of our weekly newsletter 'High Notes' for the months of May to July HIGH NOTES SUMMER HIGHLIGHTS elcome to this third issue of High Notes Highlights, a snapshot of students' participation and Wperformances in a wide range of activities and events over the past term. Students' engagement in our Whole Curriculum was one of a number of strengths highlighted in the recent Ofsted inspection: "Pupils have opportunities to participate in a range of extra-curricular activities to develop their sporting, artistic and musical skills. The ‘wider curriculum’ offer fulfills its aims of developing the whole child. Other activities for pupils ensure that they develop a sense of responsibility towards their community and society. The school’s vision to be at the ‘heart of the community’ is fulfilled well through extensive partnership work." We believe that the importance of a strong Whole Curriculum lies in its ability to broaden and strengthen the minds of our young people. We hope that our engaging and rich curriculum will fully equip all of our students with the knowledge, skills and qualities that they will need, in order to flourish in the modern world, as resilient, thoughtful and contributing citizens of the future. This year's 39 issues of High Notes detail just how many enriching opportunities are available to every student, every day; our challenge as teachers is to ensure that every student makes the very most of their Wilmslow experience, on their journey to becoming well-rounded, young people of character.

SANDBACH ARCHAEOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT Vince Devine & Jo Clark 1. SUMMARY Although the manor was recorded in the Domesday Survey of 1086, very little is known about Sandbach during the early medieval period. However, the survival of elaborate pre-Viking sculpture, in the form of crosses and grave slabs, indicates that Sandbach was an important religious centre during this period. By the late 16th century the town was granted the rights to hold a market and two fairs, all of which have continued into the present century. During the 19th century, a silk and shoe industry were established, and their commercial success was a significant factor in the growth of the town.

  • Headteacher Candidate Information Hjhjhjh January 2015
Headteacher Candidate information hjhjhjh January 2015 Dear Applicant, Thank you for the interest you have shown in becoming Headteacher of our school. This is an exceptional opportunity to lead Wilmslow High School through the next stage of its evolution and I do hope that this Information Pack and the school website give you a deep understanding of our ethos, culture and vision. Wilmslow High School is a community school that enjoys an excellent working relationship with the Local Authority and we have taken a very deliberate decision not to convert to an Academy at this time; however we keep this decision under regular review. The current school population of 2017 students including 488 in the Sixth Form, is expected to grow substantially over the coming years as a result of the pending local plan that includes proposals for significant housing development coupled with the current expansion of some feeder primaries. New build accommodation will be required very soon. In common with many other schools in many other authorities we have a major concern about the progress of our pupil premium students and are working hard to ‘close the gap’ whilst at the same time further improving outcomes for all students. School sport is an important part of school life at Wilmslow as is an extensive programme of ‘Extra’ activities before and after school. Our students undertake many school visits at home and abroad each year and you will be a keen supporter of these programmes. We are looking for a strong and inspirational leader to build rapidly on the achievements of our highly respected former Head who we were very sorry to lose.
