Dehong School Profile 2019-2020 SCHOOL PROFILE 2019 / 2020 Our School University Counselling Dehong International Chinese School (Dehong) is a Chinese owned School offering a 12- year education to Chinese nationals. It is located in the Qizhong villa area of Maqiao, Minhang Joanne Li District, Shanghai, and opened its doors on 1 September 2017. “Dehong” is made up of the University Counsellor ‘de’ from dewei – the Chinese name for Dulwich College International- and the ‘hong’ from [email protected] Rong Hong, who was the great-grandfather of a co-founder of DCI and the first Chinese-born student to graduate from an American university, Yale. He was a pioneer who made it his life’s +86 021-33299412 work to educate future generations of Chinese students by bringing his experiences of international modernisation to China. The Dulwich Network Dehong is a sister school to Dulwich College International (DCI) schools. Students benefit from DCI’s academic research and development initiatives around enquiry based learning, entrepreneurship, sustainability, the integration of technology and a world class university counselling programme. Students participate in group-wide events (music, art, drama, film, sports, as well as leadership and community programmes. School Calendar The school year is divided into two terms: Term 1, from beginning-September to late January; Term 2, from late February to the end of June. Grading We do not rank our students or calculate grade point averages. In all courses, student progress in internally assessed each semester using pre-established, standard-based performance levels. This includes traditional tests as well as assessments of group tasks, presentations, projects and other skills. Shanghai (China) Zhongkao courses conclude with externally assessed examinations. Academic Programmes Dehong offers a combined programme comprising the Shanghai compulsory curriculum enhanced with the Dulwich educational philosophy and pedagogy. The Shanghai Education Commission will assess the Shanghai compulsory curriculum, while DCI will act as academic advisors for the other (non-compulsory) aspects, such as co-curricular activities, safeguarding and the school’s pedagogical approach. 1935 Shuguang Road Maqiao, Minhang, Shanghai 1935 Tel: +8621 3329 9499/9450 Network Results Dehong’s senior high school curriculum leads our students to the internationally accredited International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme in Grades 11 and 12 (pending our application to the International Baccalaureate Organisation). The IB Diploma Programme is accepted by the world’s leading universities as a preferred programme for entry. The results below are from our network of sister schools, including Dulwich College Shanghai Pudong, Dulwich College Beijing, Dulwich College Suzhou, Dulwich College Seoul, Dulwich International High School Zhuhai and Dulwich International High School Suzhou. Dehong is yet to have a graduating class in 2023 and therefore they are not included in the results below. University Matriculations 2019 The university matriculations below are from our network of sister schools, including Dulwich College Shanghai Pudong, Dulwich College Beijing, Dulwich College Suzhou, Dulwich College Seoul, Dulwich International High School Zhuhai and Dulwich International High School Suzhou. Dehong is going to have a graduating class in 2023 and therefore they are not included in the matriculations below. .

We pride ourselves on offering a wide range of activities as part of our CCA programme, all with specified learning intentions and outcomes designed to ensure that students are being actively developed and engaged through their participation. A final reminder from me about tomorrow’s Christmas Bazaar. The Christmas Bazaar is undoubtedly one of the highlights of the TES calendar. I know the Houses, TABITHA and Roots and Shoots are busy preparing for a fun packed day and I encourage all members of the TES community to support their activities. Our musicians will also perform throughout the day so please keep an eye (and ear) out for them. I look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible. Donations for the Philippines (Typhoon Yolanda relief) at the Christmas Bazaar. Parents will have received a flyer from Mrs Patricia Tzeng about the Typhoon Yolanda relief being coordinated during the Christmas Bazaar. The flyer is attached at the end of this newsletter for your convenience. Please bring items such as canned goods, rice, sugar, blankets, pillows, toiletries (toothbrush, soap towels etc), diapers, new clothing, cooking utensils and money. The TES is always wonderfully supportive of those in need and I am certain tomorrow’s Christmas Bazaar will again show the generosity of our community. Trips It has been an exceptionally busy couple of weeks on the trips front as we have had trips involving Music FOBISIA, Sport FOBISIA and THIMUN (Singapore). Thank you to all staff involved in leading and organizing overseas trip. All students that I have spoken to were tremendously positive about the experience. As always, I have been informed our students represented the school and themselves with distinction.
