  • Story of the Alfa Romeo Factory and Plants : Part 1 the Early Portello
Story of the Alfa Romeo factory and plants: Part 1 The early Portello Factory Patrick Italiano Special thanks go to Karl Schnelle, Indianapolis, USA, for his patient proofreading and editing of the English version of this text Over the last few years, we have had to deal with large changes in Alfa Romeo-related places and buildings, as we witnessed the destruction of the old Portello factory, step by step in the late 80s, and also the de-commissioning of the much more modern Arese plant. Sad tales and silly pictures of places and people once full of pride in manufacturing the most spirited cars in the world. As reported by historians, it has long been – and still is for few – a source of pride to belong to this “workers aristocracy” at A.L.F.A.. Places recently destroyed to make place for concrete buildings now containing commercial centres or anonymous offices, places where our beloved cars were once designed, developed and built. It’s often a mix of curiosity and thrill to have the chance to look behind the scenes and see into the sanctuary. Back in 1987, when the first part of Portello was being torn down, Ben Hendricks took us on a visit to the Portello plant in Het Klaverblaadje #40. That was, as Jos Hugense coined the title 15 years later, the “beginning of the end”. Today, one can see Alfas running on the Fiat assembly lines along with Fiat Stilos and at best Lancia Thesis. These Fiat plants are no longer the places where distinguished and passionate brains try to anticipate technical trends five years into the future, thus ensuring that the new generation of Alfas keep such high company standards, as Ing.

Continuity in Color: The Persistence of Symbolic Meaning in Myths, Tales, and Tropes An Honors Thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for Honors in the Department of Literature and Philosophy. By McKinley May Under the mentorship of Joe Pellegrino ABSTRACT This paper examines the symbolism of the colors black, white, and red from ancient times to modern. It explores ancient myths, the Grimm canon of fairy tales, and modern film and television tropes in order to establish the continuity of certain symbolisms through time. In regards to the fairy tales, the examination focuses solely on the lesser-known stories, due to the large amounts of scholarship surrounding the “popular” tales. The continuity of interpretation of these three major colors (black, white, and red) establishes the link between the past and the present and demonstrates the influence of older myths and beliefs on modern understandings of the colors.

  • ACEA Principles of Automobile Cybersecurity
ACEA Principles of Automobile Cybersecurity September 2017 INTRODUCTION Today’s vehicles are increasingly ‘connected’; there is wireless data exchange with servers, infrastructure and other vehicles. Tomorrow’s vehicles will be automated and autonomous, capable of sensing their environment and navigating through cities without human input. These advances will increase comfort and convenience for customers, improve products and services, and contribute towards achieving societal goals such as improving road safety, reducing fuel consumption, and facilitating traffic management and parking. The digital world offers unprecedented opportunities. Nevertheless, opportunity comes with risks, and one of these is the threat of a direct cyberattack on vehicles or a whole vehicle fleet. Keeping cybersecurity risks for connected vehicles in check is therefore of crucial importance. The interfaces of connected vehicles present an opportunity for exploiting vulnerabilities if adequate cybersecurity mechanisms are not implemented and cybersecurity risks are not dealt with appropriately. Attackers may compromise the user’s personal data, threaten the vehicle’s systems or endanger passengers. The European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) and its members are committed to mitigating these risks. To do so, ACEA and its members have identified a set of six key principles to enhance the protection of connected and automated vehicles against cyber threats. 1. Cultivating a cybersecurity culture 2. Adopting a cybersecurity life cycle for vehicle

Everlore: Two Albums that Accurately Portray the Melancholic Mood of a Pandemic By Jannie Gowdy, 12 When I was seven years old, my mom took me to a Taylor Swift concert in Des Moines. I was obsessed with the artist, and I showed up with a paper guitar and my favorite dress on, elated that I was going to finally see my role model perform. My greatest hope was fulfilled: Taylor put on a phenomenal show, gliding over the audience and displaying her powerful vocals. I left there holding her in the highest regard. Over the course of her career, I followed her albums as she went from one era to the next, loving every style change. After all, Taylor Swift is the queen of evolving her discography. She started out with country roots in her debut album, Fearless, and Speak Now, and progressed to pop in Red and 1989. While her next two albums, Reputation and Lover, are also categorized as pop albums as well, they each have a very unique tone displayed by differing characteristics. Reputation’s electro-backing and musical mixing songs are powerful and fierce, while Lover contrasted sharply with softer instrumentals and a self-discovery theme. While Swift’s style is characterized by more specific ‘eras’ and there is always fan speculation about her next era, no one expected her to go the route of indie-folk music. On July 23rd, Swift announced n social media platforms that her eighth album would be dropping at midnight. She wrote in an accompanying statement, "Before this year I probably would’ve overthought when to release this music at the ‘perfect’ time, but the times we’re living in keep reminding me that nothing is guaranteed." She went on to say, "My gut is telling me that if you make something you love, you should just put it out into the world.” The sixteen songs she released (later releasing “The Lakes” as a bonus track) incorporated bleak and soft themes, reflecting life during the pandemic.
