Konflik Keraton Surakarta Hadiningrat Pasca Wafatnya Paku Buwono XII KERATON DAN POLITIK (Konflik Keraton Surakarta Hadiningrat Pasca Wafatnya Paku Buwono XII) Skripsi Diajukan untuk Memenuhi Persyaratan Memperoleh Gelar Sarjana Sosial (S.Sos) Disusun oleh Muhammad Agus Salim Muharrom NIM: 109033200020 PROGRAM STUDI ILMU POLITIK FAKULTAS ILMU SOSIAL DAN ILMU POLITIK UNIVERSITAS ISLAM NEGERI SYARIF HIDAYATULLAH JAKARTA 2014 ABSTRAK Masih adakah drama perebutan kekuasaan antar para bangsawan? It specifically aims to analyze historical accounts on the dynamic relations between Islamic norms and local culture with corresponding results of distinctive ways of ruling by these two great rulers. While both rulers Akbar and Sultan Agung shared similar concerns in political imagination, their difference was particularly shown in the representation of religion in the courts’ political and legal culture, with the latter was heavily determined by different challenges they faced during their rule. This paper argues that a comparative overview of these two great figures, who ruled in different parts of the world and at rather successive periods, would be beneficial for the studies of religion-culture relations in flagging the 1 This article is an elaboration of our previous research on “Dialectic of Religion and Culture: A Comparison of Emperor Akbar’s Spiritualism Din-i-Ilahi and Sultan Agung’s Manunggaling Kawula Gusti that we conducted with Prof.

Islamic mysticism is the other name of sufism or tashawwuf . Islamic mysticism embedded in this serat includes tashawwuf amali and tashawwuf falsafi. Sultan Agung thoughts in this serat tends to follow the thoughts of Ibn Arabi on mysticism. The aims of this research are (1) to explore the meaning of the whole contents about mysticism embodied in the text of Serat Sastra Gendhing as well as to identify the form of mystic in which the writer is trying to develop, (2) to identify the social setting as the background of its writing, and (3) to look at the relevance of the teaching in its contemporary readers context. In completing this research, the researcher employed an approach called hermeneutics introduced by Gadamer. Hermeneutics developed by Gadamer has the main focus on three areas of study, namely the world of the text, the world of the author, and the world of the reader. In this research, the concept by Gadamer is applied in such ways: (1) the study on the text is used in order to find out the contents as well as the meaning embodied in the text, (2) the study on writer is use on purpose to find out the his social setting as a background of the writing, and (3) the study on the reader of the text to find out the relevance of the text with its reader in contemporary time.

  • Global Indonesia
Global Indonesia In the nineteenth century, colonial rule brought the modern world closer to the Indonesian peoples, introducing mechanized transport, all- weather roads, postal and telegraph communications, and steamship networks that linked Indonesia’s islands to each other, to Europe and the Middle East. This book looks at Indone- sia’s global importance, and traces the entwining of its peoples and economies with the wider world. The book discusses how products unique to Indonesia first slipped into regional trade networks and exposed scattered communities to the dynamic influ- ence of far- off civilizations. It focuses on economic and cultural changes that resulted in the emergence of political units organized as oligarchies or monar- chies, and goes on to look in detail at Indonesia’s relationship with Holland’s East Indies. The book analyses the attempts by politicians to negotiate ways of being modern but uniquely Indonesian, and considers the oscillations in Indonesia between movements for theocracy and democracy. It is a useful contribution for students and scholars of World History and Southeast Asian Studies. Based on traditional notions of womanhood, these duties were used by the Indonesian State to restrict women's activities to the private sphere, that is, the family and domesticity. Linked with the Five Duties was kodrat wanita (women's destiny), an unofficial code of conduct, loosely based on biological determinism. Kodrat wanita became a benchmark by which women were measured during this period, and to a large extent this code is still valid today. In this thesis, I have analyzed female characters in Indonesian literature with specific identities that are on the periphery of this dominant discourse.

PERFORMING ARTS OF INDONESIA (PERFORMANCE EDUCATION AND ARCHIVE)1 BY I MADE BANDEM I. INTRODUCTION Indonesia is the largest archipelago in the world. It consists of roughly 17,000 islands, 6,000 of which, covering 60% of its area size, are populated. As expressed in the caption of the coat of arms “Bhineka Tunggal Ika” (meaning Unity in Diversity), Indonesia has extremely diverse population, with different historical and socio-cultural backgrounds. There are probably over 400 ethnic groups found in the island with over 300 ethnic languages. Currently, the population of Indonesia is about 220 million people. As a nation, Indonesia is bound together by one common language, known as Bahasa Indonesia.2 Due to the historical and socio-cultural diversity within the population, each ethnic group of Indonesia has developed their own unique visual and performing arts. Presently, there are dozens of style and hundreds of form of performing arts, which most of them have been survived and inherited over generation after generation, while some of them are newly created. Even though, they have different stages of development, those performing arts still in existence simultaneously. Additionally, there are many evidence of cultural assimilation between the Indonesian culture with some foreign culture such as the cultural elements of India, China, Arabic countries, Portuguese and Western continents. Through adaptation, these foreign elements blended themselves with local cultures in which enrich the original cultures. As a result the Javanese and the Balinese Wayang Wong dance drama is quite different from the Kathakali of India, the Sumatranese and Rudat dances of Lombok are not found in Arabic countries, and Keroncong music of Indonesia is only similar to that of Portuguese music.

AL ALBAB Volume 5 Number 1 June 2016 EDWIN WIERINGA AND THE EXOTICISM OF THE MINDS OF INDONESIAN MUSLIMS Media Zainul Bahri1 UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta [email protected] Abstract This article elaborates in-depth the views of Edwin Wieringa on Indonesian Is- lam. Wieringa is Professor of Indonesian philology with special reference to Is- lamic cultures at the University of Cologne, Germany. In addition to philology, Wieringa also concerns himself with the Indonesian contemporary Islamic issues. According to Wieringa, various aspects of the minds of Indonesian Muslims in the past and present are always exotic, in the sense of “unique” and “attractive”, and therefore motivates him to examine a lot of things about Indonesian Islam. For Wieringa, Indonesian Muslim cultural exoticism also shows a high civiliza- tion that must be appreciated by the Indonesian Muslims themselves. Dozens articles of Wieringa which explore the culture of Islam in this country shows that he has a remarkable contribution to the development of Indonesian Islamic and cultural studies. Keywords: Edwin Wieringa, Exoticism, Culture, Mind, Indonesia Islam INTRODUCTION This article elaborates the views Edwin Wieringa that shed light on Islam and Indonesianism which he poured through articles in international publications. Edwin Wieringa, a professor of Indonesian philology with special reference to Islamic cultures at the university Köln Germany, is a senior researcher of ancient Islamic Javanese manuscripts and the phenomenon of contemporary Indonesian Islam. Engaging in the studies of Southeast Asia, particularly Indonesia, from the beginning to college at Leiden University in the Netherlands, to pursue a Ph.D in the field of Language and Culture of Indonesia, has made Wieringa’s views on Indonesian Islam clear and 1 I would like to thank Professor Edwin Wieringa for letting me interview him on many occasions in Köln-Germany and Leiden-Netherlands for the purposes of this article.
