The Spanish Economy in and the World

Course taught by

Lorena García Alonso, Professor of Applied Economics at the University of , and Instructor in the Master’s of Maritime and Port Administration of the University of Maritime Studies at La Corogne. Specialist of Maritime Economics, Professor Alonso has published a number of articles in her field in international journals. She is a member of the research staff of of the Laboratory of Regional Economic Analysis of the University of Oviedo (REGIOlab) and is involved with various not-for-profits and professional organizations.

Purpose and description of the course:

The purpose of the course is to provide IFE with an overview of socio-economic conditions and realities in , while also taking into account the European framework and the phenomena of globalization. As a required element in IFE’s Field Study and Internship Program, the course intends to equip students with a broader contextual framework in complement to the more regionally focused instruction comprising the preparatory session.

• 26 hours of classroom instruction and 9 hours of instruction in the form of class site visits • Total: 35 heures

Grading

The final grade is based on the final examination (50%), class participation (25%) and an oral presentation (25%).
