(page 3) S ewish eport DAY J R 49 www.sajewishreport.co.za File photo File We salute you, Madiba “Cometh the hour, cometh the man,” perfectly sums up the greatest statesman South Africa has ever produced. Nelson Mandela became president of a democratic South Africa in 1994 when the country teetered on the brink of a racial bloodbath and the populace were mired in anxiety. His gigantic presence still dominates the South African scene, where South Africans - and billions around the world - wait with bated breath, praying for a miracle that the elder statesman would be with us a while longer. South Africans will be eternally grateful for this visionary figure, with his ideal of a “rainbow nation”, where everyone has a rightful place to work, live and be proud citizens, without fear or prejudice.
