PaceSetter Tips 1. You need to give first so you can ask with confidence and get better results. Be a giver first and an asker second. Ask them to “join with you” and make a .

2. Believe in the mission! Talk about your commitment to the Easterseals Rehabilitation Center and why you have made a donation. Tell them why the donation is important and who it will help. Stress that the money stays local! Keep Easterseals facts & figures handy.

3. Don’t be afraid to ask! Most people will give if they are asked. You will get better results if you call people you know! SMILE when you make your calls. Enthusiasm shows even over the phone. The response of the donor is in direct proportion to the enthusiasm of the solicitor.

4. The best people to ask are those who have given in the past. Focus on retaining past donors and increasing their donation.

5. Suggest a pledge amount. If you know the person can afford $100, don’t ask for $10. Ask the individual or business to increase their donation from the previous year. Let your donor know that pledges of $100 or more will be announced on the air and for a donation of $250 or more; they can make a check presentation on the Telethon.

6. If people tell you “I don’t have my checkbook” or “I don’t have my wallet”, remember ALL YOU NEED IS A PLEDGE which will be billed after the Telethon.

7. Your job is to help people “feel good about giving” so they can give with joy! . 90% of donors want to feel good & make a difference, 20% are motivated by tax deduction. . 43% who give to charitable organizations are more likely to be very happy than non-givers.

8. When you make your call: . Get all the information out and keep in control of the conversation. . Use a script, but do not read it. Use a “conversational” tone of voice. . Tell the donor what you want them to do. Ask for a specific amount and aim high. . Close the “sale.” Ask for a specific donation and then STOP TALKING! . Be a good listener. You cannot overcome objections if you do not know what they are. . If the answer is no, make sure you know why. The reason may give you the opportunity to turn the “no” into a “yes,” and it will give you information for future contacts. When you get a “no” do not be discouraged, it is not you! Always keep the door open for the future. . Never apologize for asking for a . You are giving them the opportunity to invest in “changing lives of Tri-State children and adults with disabilities!” . Make a number of calls at one sitting, because each call gets better with practice.

9. is a numbers game, if you ask enough times, you will get enough yeses. . 81% feel they should give, 14% were never asked, 23% didn’t get around to it

10. Ask your employer to consider matching the money you raise!

11. PLEASE START IMMEDIATELY and remember that your goal is a just a minimum.

12. Say THANK YOU! Let donors know that they are appreciated & how their money helped people.
