It Sounds Like Something out of a Movie to Hear Him Tell It, but Tracy T Can Actually Recall the Moment He Knew He Would Become a Rapper

It sounds like something out of a movie to hear him tell it, but Tracy T can actually recall the moment he knew he would become a rapper.

"I was six-years-old, and I was sitting on the porch with a little boom box blasting," remembers the Atlanta MC and Maybach Music Group artist. "Snoop Dogg's 'Gin and Juice' came on, and I told my older cousin that I was going to be like Snoop one day. That was it. It just felt so natural—like I was meant to do it all along."

His introduction to recording happened shortly thereafter. While in the first grade, he spit his very first verse into the microphone at a professional studio. Hip-hop had effectively claimed the youngster, and he dedicated his entire life to it.

Tracy T would go from fine-tuning his skills in his bedroom closet at 17-years-old to releasing his first local single "Swagger Right Check" in 2009. The track started to gain traction through street marketing and his constant hustle, but tragedy unexpectedly struck in December 2009…four times, no less.

"I got shot in the chest, the side, the hand, and the leg," he sighs. "It slowed down my career a lot. I had a bag on my stomach for six months and developed a crazy scar. I had to learn how to walk again, and it took me so long to recuperate. A year later, I tried rapping, but I would run out of breath. I didn't give up though. As soon as I really got better in 2012, I hit the studio."

His unbreakable spirit fuels his style now. With a gruff gusto, throaty cadence, and raw, real, and rare delivery, Tracy T harnesses a palpable and powerful energy with every bar.

"It's got to be energetic and feel alive," he declares of his sound. "I want to give people something real from the streets, but show that songwriting talent too. My music is like a big gumbo pot. It can touch everybody, whether you're looking for something hood or something club. I feel like I'm the John Gotti of the rap game. I'm trying to take over and give everyone my energy." In late 2013, with a renewed fire, Tracy T linked up with his old friend and Maybach Music Group producer Beat Billionaire. The two cut "16", and Beat Billionaire played it for Rick Ross. Days later, Tracy T was on a plane to Miami to meet the Maybach Music Group C.E.O.

"I was just excited to even meet Ross," he smiles. "I have all of his CDs, and it was a dream come true. The first thing we did was go to the studio and record four songs. I'm so blessed to be signed to Maybach. Ross pushes me to grind and go hard. I got on the hook for 'War Ready' with him and Jeezy even. He embraced me as family, and I'm working harder than I've ever worked because of him."

Now appearing on DJ Scream's 2014 album, Hunger Pains,"16" proves that. Tracy's ferocious cadence drives this airy anthem as Meek Mill delivers an inspired and impressive cameo.

He goes on, "That song came from the streets. It reminds me of how I started. I've come a long way to where I'm at now. It's a good foundation for where I'm going and a solid introduction. I'm giving that Atlanta flavor too."

Meanwhile, his single "Champagne" pops off with an infectious refrain and intoxicating groove. Tracy T proclaims, "I'm trying to make classics and keep it going. This one is a crazy party record. We're popping champagne. Everything is the color of champagne from the cars to the drinks to the females."

Tracy T is on a roll in 2014, and he's not stopping. "Get to know me now," he says. "Watch my story unfold and grow. Be a part of my life. Keep your eyes watching and your ears listening. It's going to be epic, man."
