BACKGROUND Members of the TGFβ superfamily exert their biological effects by binding to heteromeric complexes of a type I and a type II serinethreonine kinase receptor, both of which are essential for signal transduction. Activin receptor type IIB is a type II receptor that mediates multiple signals for transforming growth factorbeta (TGFbeta) family members including Activin, Nodal, Bmp7, Gdf1, Gdf3, Myostatin (Gdf8), and Gdf11. Through alternative mRNA splicing, multiple Activin RIIB isoforms can also be generated. Rev. 9/14/2012 Page 1 of 1 www.RnDSystems.com For research use only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures.
