So as we recall this solemn story, we will be extinguishing the candles and light around us. When the story ends, so will the candlelight have been extinguished, and we will leave in silence.     AS WE GATHER Why has God become man? Why does God have flesh? Why does God have a heart that beats, lungs that breathe, a brain with synapses that fire? For this: to die. His heart beats so that it can stop beating. His lungs draw in breaths and exchange oxygen for carbon dioxide so that they can fill with fluid and stop taking in breath.   • Maundy Thursday Tenebrae Service
    MAUNDY THURSDAY TENEBRAE SERVICE This service was originally designed for a church that usually only celebrates either Maundy Thursday or Good Friday, but not both. It combines Maundy Thursday’s new commandment, a fellowship meal, the Last Supper and a Tenebrae service. For a larger church, this could be done twice in the same evening. As people are eating, they are to reflect upon the text of Maundy Thursday. Tables are set up so that everyone is seated at table. A simple fellowship meal may precede this liturgy, in which case, casually and informally make sure that a basket of bread is on the table for all to share and that a bottle of sparkling grape juice is also there to share. Toward the end of the meal, break into it with the following liturgy. The idea is that like Jesus’ last supper with his disciples, the meaning of the meal just suddenly unfolds with Jesus’ odd words interjected into what seemed like a rather ordinary meal of the day. Lit tapers are on each table. A larger Christ candle is also in center of the space on one of the tables or on its own stand. This service requires advanced preparation and some practice in the evening with regard to lighting so that the lights gradually dim with the extinguishing of each candle. Timing is everything. There is a rhythm to this story that needs attention, so pastors may hand this service to someone with drama experience to “direct” the liturgy so that all he/she has to do is holy communion.

Nezainteresovanému pozorovateli se může zdát, že veškeré dění kolem Depeche Mode vstoupilo do tzv. okurkové sezóny. Vše tomu i nasvědčovalo, kdyby ovšem pan Andrew Fletcher nenavštívil osobně Prahu. Andyho hlavním cílem bylo zavítat do české pobočky Mute Records, tedy do firmy Mute Czechoslovakia, která nejen že v ČR vydává veškeré sladby DM, ale také se o náš fan club tak krásně stará. Právě díky této firmě dostáváte zaručené a potvrzené zprávy a navíc se na našich srazech můžete těšit na zajímavé ceny v soutěžích a tombolách. Vás ovšem jistě víc zajímá, copak jsme se od Andyho dozvěděli. Povídalo se o termínech vydání nového materiálu i o případném příjezdu celé kapely do Prahy. Podrobnější informace pochopitelně naleznete na dalších stránkách tohoto čísla. Andyho návštěva prošla „samozřejmě“ bez jakéhokoliv povšimnutí českých médií. Ve stejné době, tedy v čase, kdy stránky většiny českých hudebních časopisů zaplňovaly polemiky zda lepší je Britney Spears či Christina Aquilera, vydal Alan Charles Wilder své další album. Jeho nové CD „Liquid“ plně navazuje na předchozí Unsound Methods, i když téměř všem fanouškům na albu schází drsný vokál Douglase McCarthyho. V plejádě známých i neznámých jmen, která v novém Recoilu najdeme, je třeba vyzvednout pološílenou Diamandu Galás (právě její píseň „Strange Hours“ vyjde jako první singl) a newyorskou hvězdičku Nicole Blackman. Naše informace o současných aktivitách Alana Wildera vyvolaly velké rozpory mezi vámi.
