Press Release April 19, 2014 No Press Release April 19, 2014 No. M 24/14 Sports Car World Championship WEC, round 1: Silverstone/Great Britain, LMP1 Tight qualifying – Porsche 919 Hybrid up to speed Stuttgart. Solid qualifying performance from the newly formed Porsche Team with the two Porsche 919 Hybrids in the World Endurance Championship (WEC): After three free practice sessions with no problems, the first qualifying was also trouble free. Drivers Romain Dumas (FR) and Neel Jani (CH) achieved an average lap time of 1 minute 43.087 seconds and qualified the 919 Hybrid in third place on the grid for the opening race in Silverstone (GB). Team mates Mark Webber (AU) and Timo Bernhard (DE) qualified sixth with no. 20 sister car (1 minute 43.226 seconds) for Sunday’s six hour race. Pole position went to the Toyota drivers Alexander Wurz/Kazuki Nakajima. The small time difference between all LMP1 works cars is remarkable: It is less than 0.5 seconds between pole position and sixth place. In the WEC qualifying is split into classes. The LMP1 and LMP2 classes share 25 minutes on track. Two drivers from each car have to do two timed laps each. The average times from those four lap times make the grid positions. Wolfgang Hatz, Board Member for Research and Development of Porsche AG: “I am happy with the result. The entire crew and the drivers have put in a good per- formance. Despite having put the focus of our development on the 24 hour race in Le Mans, we are here at the same level as Toyota and Audi. We should not take this for granted and we also are aware that we have not exploited the full development po- tential of the car yet.” Dr. Ing. h.c. F. We have tough months of preparation work behind us. We used to say: who takes time to breath has lost the battle. I feel very happy for every single team member.” Andreas Seidl, Team Principal LMP1: “We have managed another new challenge today. It was rather surprising for us to be so close to our competition here, as Silver- stone does not favour our car too much. Positions three and six are absolutely okay. Now we will concentrate on our preparations for the six hour race.” Drivers Porsche 919 Hybrid #14 Romain Dumas: “It was a successful qualifying for us, and I am happy with third place. It is a very close competition and we have made further progress. My laps were good despite a small mistake on the first one. Now we look forward to tomorrow and to finishing our first race. Our car ran without any problems, but we still have a lack of experience with the Porsche 919 Hybrid.“ Neel Jani: “It was our target to be competitive and we have managed that by coming third. Next to be ticked off from the list is to complete the race distance, and then we shall see where we end up. Romain did a great job on new tyres, this was good team work.” Drivers Porsche 919 Hybrid #20 Timo Bernhard: “It was tough competition today, and the lap times of the front run- ners are extremely close. The car was a bit tricky to drive and we kept working on the set-up and balance in free practice three despite simulating qualifying. I think we are looking fine for the race.” Mark Webber: “One hour of free practice wasn’t a lot to get two guys and the car ready for qualifying and to practice the qualifying procedures. Nevertheless, we had Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche Aktiengesellschaft 2 of 4 Public Relations and Press Porscheplatz 1 Motorsport 70435 Stuttgart Holger Eckhardt Tel +49 (0) 7 11 9 11 – 2 49 59 e-mail [email protected] Press Release April 19, 2014 No. M 24/14 an eye on race preparation and kept doing set-up changes. In qualifying we might have left a bit of performance out there, but the team did a very good job. A possible wet race would give us an extra challenge on the operational side as well as on track. Despite the temporary four-wheel drive, any race car on the limit in the wet needs the maximum respect.” The Porsche 919 Hybrid: With two different energy recovery systems the Porsche 919 Hybrid is the most com- plex race car the sports car manufacturer has ever built, and serves as the fastest mobile research laboratory for future road cars. The lightweight prototype is trimmed for extreme performance and efficiency. Besides the kinetic energy recovery system (MGU-K) under braking, the 919 Hybrid recuperates thermal exhaust energy (MGU- H) when accelerating. The combination of these two systems means a step into un- known territory for Porsche and a unique feature in the entire WEC. When the driver recalls the stored energy from the liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery packs, an electric motor drives the two front wheels with more than 250 hp. This power adds to the over 500 hp combustion engine (downsizing 2.0 litres V4-cylinder, turbocharged with di- rect injection) and this way the two systems result in temporary all-wheel drive. “Home of British Motor Racing“ You can’t miss the message that Silverstone is the Home of British Motor Racing – the slogan welcomes you in huge letters at the main gate. The first circuit was built in 1948 in the grounds of a military airbase. Today’s track layout features a 5.891 km long and flat Grand Prix circuit with 18 bends. Many of their names are mentioned with great respect by drivers. For example the great combination of Maggots- Becketts-Chapel, which leads onto the Hangar straight, ending at the sharp right hander of Stowe corner. Silverstone is located in Northamptonshire, 130 kilometers Northwest of London. Dr. Ing. h.c. F. • The 2014 6 Hours of Bahrain: Tyre Strategies and World Titles
MEDIA INFORMATION November 2014 2014 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) 6 Hours of Bahrain The 2014 6 Hours of Bahrain: tyre strategies and world titles The 2014 6 Hours of Bahrain turned out to be an emotional event where Michelin tyres played a fundament role in the final outcome. The result settled a number of Drivers’ titles, with Toyota Racing’s Antony DAVIDSON and Sébastien BUEMI securing the top prize in LM P1, while the LM GTE Pro crown was sealed by AF Corse/Ferrari racers Gianmaria BRUNI and Toni VILANDER. Tyre strategy key in qualifying Qualifying practice for the 2014 6 Hours of Bahrain produced a contest in which tyre strategy helped Porsche Team to snatch pole position from Toyota Racing by mere tenths of a second. The German squad chose MICHELIN’s ‘soft high temperature’ compound, while Audi Sport Team Joest – which was represented by a single R18 e-tron quattro in qualifying – and Toyota Racing both opted for the French firm’s ‘medium high temperature’ alternative. The fastest lap was eventually posted by the N°14 Porsche 919 Hybrid in the hands of DUMAS/JANI who recorded a best time of 1m41.897s round the 5.412km Sakhir International Circuit, and an average lap of 1m43.145s. The N°8 Toyota TS040 Hybrid (DAVIDSON/BUEMI) was second fastest (+0.265s), followed by the N°20 Porsche 919 Hybrid (BERNHARD/HARTLEY, +1.046s). While Porsche’s choice proved judicious for qualifying, the question was whether it would be suitable for the start of the 6 Hours of Bahrain which took place with track temperatures standing at around 40°C, since the tyres used for qualifying had to be fitted for the first stint of the race? Romain DUMAS wasn’t sure… “I’ve been nominated to start the race in the N°14 Porsche and I think I will put on a good show for the spectators on soft compound tyres.

  • Michelin and Audi Win the 82 Le Mans 24 Hours
INFORMATION PRESSE 2014 Le Mans 24 Hours Michelin and Audi win the 82nd Le Mans 24 Hours The 2014 Le Mans 24 Hours provided the 263,300 spectators with an action-packed weekend that included to the return of Porsche to endurance racing and an early part of the race marked by changeable weather conditions. The drama-filled competition ultimately saw Audi Sport Team Joest claim a one-two triumph with the N°2 R18 e-tron quattro of FÄSSLER / LOTTERER / TRÉLUYER (1st) and the N°1 sister car of DI GRASSI / KRISTENSEN / GENE. The two German cars were joined on the podium by the N°8 Toyota TS040 Hybrid of DAVIDSON / LAPIERRE / BUEMI. For the 2014 FIA World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC), MICHELIN Motorsport has developed new tyres which are both narrower by five centimetres and two kilograms lighter. In spite of the harsher constraints to which they are exposed as a result of the latest technical regulations, their safety performance, longevity and competitiveness lived up to the expectations of the French firm’s partners. The drivers were regularly able to complete three and even four stints on the same set, something which was far from a foregone conclusion prior to the start given that the latest-generation P1 prototypes are even faster than last season’s cars and consequently place higher demands on their tyres. Pascal COUASNON, MICHELIN Motorsport’s Director, is pleased with the results secured by his company’s tyres in the French race this year: “First of all, I would like to thank all our partners.

The 83 rd LE MANS 24 HOURS 2015 Club Arnage - Essential Information Changes this year Regulations Various F1 type regulations restricting the amount of testing, engines, tyres , gearboxes, etc used in the WEC will be introduced this year. The average weight of a crew must be 80 kgs (weight including race wear, etc.) and if the average is less then ballast must be carried. For Le Mans LMP1 and P2 will be permitted to use a maximum of 7 sets of tyres in Free Practice, Qualifying and the warm-up (almost 12 hours of track time). For GTE Pro and Am they will be permitted 8 sets. Four “Joker” tyres will be additionally authorised for practice in each class. For the race LMP1 cars will be limited to 12 sets + 2 sets for any new prototypes. In LMP2, GTE Pro and Am 16 sets of tyres will be allowed for the race. Circuit changes Work to stabilise the sides of the track between Mulsanne Corner and the entrance to the Porsche Curves by putting tarmac over some of the grass verges was completed before Christmas at a cost of € 425,000. At the Porsche Curves work has started which will be ongoing for about 3 years. At the first right hand corner the existing gravel trap will be replaced by an abrasive bitumen coating and new tyre barriers. The width of the second left hand part will be expanded by about 3 metres and again grass will be replaced by bitumen. SAFER (Steel and Foam Energy Reduction) barriers will be installed over a distance of about 220 metres.
