Their endurance through such conditions as blowing ice pellets, visiting to the same locations over and over, dealing with a grizzly bear and mountain goat blocking the trail, and camping out in thunderstorms was greatly appreciated. vi I would also like to thank and acknowledge the unwavering support of my family, without whom I would not have been able to complete this dissertation.
