Besides, cubiu fruits are highly valued for their nutritional richness (e.g., soluble fibers such as pectin, vitamin C, potassium, and carotenoids). The objective of this study was to evaluate sensory and physical changes of green cubiu fruits during the post-harvest period at ambient atmosphere. Green cubiu fruits were randomly harvested and immediately taken to the laboratory of the Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia (INPA), Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil. The perfect fruits were then selected (n = 20), stored at ambient atmosphere (mean temperature of 29.24°C), and daily evaluated for (i) loss of weight, (ii) longitudinal (L) and transverse (T) diameter modifications, (iii) loss of freshness, and (iv) color changes.

The original publication is available at www.springerlink.com ***Note: Figures may be missing from this format of the document Abstract: Adventitious shoots and roots were regenerated from leaf segments of 3 Solanum species: S. candidum Lindl., S. quitoense Lam. and S. sessiliflorum Dunal. Leaf explants differentiated shoots on modified MS medium supplemented with 23-163 μm kinetin and 0-5.7 μm indoleacetic acid (IAA). Excised shoots were induced to form roots by transfer to media with benzyladenine (BA) and naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA) at 0.09 and 0.11/2 μM respectively for S. qultoense and 0.01 μm NAA for S. candidum and S. sessiliflorum. Adventitious roots were produced directly from leaf explants with 0-140 μm kinetin and 0-5.7μm IAA in combination. Rooted plants were successfully established in the greenhouse. Key words: naranjilla, organogenesis, Solanum candidum, Solanum qultoense, Solanum sessiliforum, tissue culture Article: INTRODUCTION The naranjilla (Solanum quitoense Lam.) is a large, lignescent perennial that is cultivated for the juice of its fruit in Andean South America and in some Central American countries [13]. Its cultivation is severely limited by climatic requirements and susceptibility to diseases and pests, particularly the rootknot nematode [6].

  • Notice to the Wildlife Import/Export Community
NOTICE TO THE WILDLIFE IMPORT/EXPORT COMMUNITY June 8, 2010 Subject: Changes to CITES Species Listings Background: Party countries of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) meet approximately every two years for a Conference of the Parties. During these meetings, countries review and vote on amendments to the listings of protected species in CITES Appendix I and Appendix II. Such amendments become effective 90 days after the last day of the meeting unless Party countries agree to delay implementation. The most recent Conference of the Parties (CoP 15) was held in Doha, Qatar, March 13-15, 2010. Action: The amendments to CITES Appendices I and II that appear below (which were adopted at CoP 15) will be effective on June 23, 2010. Any specimens of these species imported into, or exported from, the United States on or after June 23, 2010 will require CITES documentation as specified under the amended listings. The import, export, or re-export of shipments of these species that are accompanied by CITES documents reflecting a pre-June 23 listing status or that lack CITES documents because no listing was previously in effect must be completed by midnight (local time at the point of import/export) on June 22, 2010. Importers and exporters can find the official revised CITES appendices on the CITES website at http://www.cites.org. Hoshino) Abstract The development of in vitro propagation methods can improve the current commercial use and conservation of plants like naranjilla (Solanum quitoense), a distinctive Andean crop and key emerging agricultural product. In the present study, we report in vitro culture protocols for naranjilla apical buds, hypocotyls and petioles. In apical bud culture, MS medium supplemented with 0.10 mg l−1 1-naphtaleneacetic acid (NAA) produced longer plantlets with greater number of leaves. Hypocotyl culture yielded higher number of shoots when using older explants in MS medium supplemented with different combinations of NAA, 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP) and gibberellic acid (GA3). Petiole culture produced a significantly higher number of shoots per explant, with more abundant and bigger leaves, when using MS medium −1 −1 −1 supplemented with 0.02 mg l NAA, 4.50 mg l BAP and 1.00 mg l GA3.

  • The Complete Chloroplast Genome of Cinnamomum Camphora and Its Comparison with Related Lauraceae Species
The complete chloroplast genome of Cinnamomum camphora and its comparison with related Lauraceae species Caihui Chen1,2, Yongjie Zheng2, Sian Liu1, Yongda Zhong3, Yanfang Wu2, Jiang Li2, Li-An Xu1 and Meng Xu1 1 Co-Innovation Center for Sustainable Forestry in Southern China, Nanjing Forestry University, Nanjing, Jiangsu, China 2 Camphor Engineering Technology Research Center for State Forestry Administration, Jiangxi Academy of Forestry, Nanchang, Jiangxi, China 3 Institute of Biological Resources, Jiangxi Academy of Science, Nanchang, Jiangxi, China ABSTRACT Cinnamomum camphora, a member of the Lauraceae family, is a valuable aromatic and timber tree that is indigenous to the south of China and Japan. All parts of Cinnamomum camphora have secretory cells containing different volatile chemical compounds that are utilized as herbal medicines and essential oils. Here, we reported the complete sequencing of the chloroplast genome of Cinnamomum camphora using illumina technology. The chloroplast genome of Cinnamomum camphora is 152,570 bp in length and characterized by a relatively conserved quadripartite structure containing a large single copy region of 93,705 bp, a small single copy region of 19,093 bp and two inverted repeat (IR) regions of 19,886 bp. Overall, the genome contained 123 coding regions, of which 15 were repeated in the IR regions. An analysis of chloroplast sequence divergence revealed that the small single copy region was highly variable among the different genera in the Lauraceae family. A total of 40 repeat structures and 83 simple sequence repeats were detected in both the coding and non-coding regions. A phylogenetic analysis indicated that Calycanthus is most closely related to Lauraceae, both being members of Laurales, Submitted 7 June 2017 which forms a sister group to Magnoliids.
