International Dance Day: Free Samba Lesson
International Dance Day: Free Samba Lesson Need more support? Contact us: Tel: +44(0)208 203 1781 | Email: [email protected] | Twitter: @2simplesoftware Introduction We have created this dance lesson for schools to use to celebrate International Dance Day. The lesson is based on a Samba dance and there is a video which is broken up into short teaching sequences that you can use alongside these teaching notes. The lesson has been produced for 2Simple by Ella Mesma, who is an established professional artist with over 15 years of experience in dance and movement. Ella is of mixed heritage and was born in Kent, now based near Leeds, where she studied politics, and her hometown Bristol. Ella began her dance career dancing salsa in clubs, and training samba in Brazil where she paraded in carnival as a Passista in 2006. As a trained dancer, performance highlights have included Russell Maliphant Company, Lea Anderson (The Chomondeleys), Olympics Opening Ceremony, Southpaw and Uchenna. Her love for Rumba has led to her creating and touring the International Roots of Rumba Festival since 2013. You can also download some selected dance units, yoga and mindfulness resources from Striver here. If you use this lesson we would love to see you sharing your work with us on Twitter or Faceboook using #InternationalDanceDay. Need more support? Therefore, the objective of this work was to carry out a collection of publications on NTFPs in Brazil, until 2019, available in the Scopus database, presenting a bibliometric review and the state of the art of this theme from the evaluation of these publications, discussing the challenges of Brazilian legislation on NTFPs. After screening the articles of interest, 196 documents were evaluated, in which they were observed institutions and authors, analyzing networks of citations and terms used, areas of forest sciences and sciences that encompass the most explored biomes and the most studied species. The results showed that the concern to research on NTFPs in Brazil began in the 1990s, with an increase in the number of publications over the years. Besides that, the research on NTFPs is multidisciplinary, with emphasis on the areas of Agricultural and Biological Sciences and Environmental Science. -

Notice to the Wildlife Import/Export Community
NOTICE TO THE WILDLIFE IMPORT/EXPORT COMMUNITY June 8, 2010 Subject: Changes to CITES Species Listings Background: Party countries of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) meet approximately every two years for a Conference of the Parties. During these meetings, countries review and vote on amendments to the listings of protected species in CITES Appendix I and Appendix II. Such amendments become effective 90 days after the last day of the meeting unless Party countries agree to delay implementation. The most recent Conference of the Parties (CoP 15) was held in Doha, Qatar, March 13-15, 2010. Action: The amendments to CITES Appendices I and II that appear below (which were adopted at CoP 15) will be effective on June 23, 2010. Any specimens of these species imported into, or exported from, the United States on or after June 23, 2010 will require CITES documentation as specified under the amended listings. The import, export, or re-export of shipments of these species that are accompanied by CITES documents reflecting a pre-June 23 listing status or that lack CITES documents because no listing was previously in effect must be completed by midnight (local time at the point of import/export) on June 22, 2010. Importers and exporters can find the official revised CITES appendices on the CITES website at http://www.cites.org. Species Added to Appendix I Neurergus kaiseri (Kaiser’s spotted newt) Species Added to Appendix II Adenia olaboensis (Adenia) Agalychnis annae (Blue-sided tree frog) Agalychnis callidryas -

The Complete Chloroplast Genome of Cinnamomum Camphora and Its Comparison with Related Lauraceae Species
The complete chloroplast genome of Cinnamomum camphora and its comparison with related Lauraceae species Caihui Chen1,2, Yongjie Zheng2, Sian Liu1, Yongda Zhong3, Yanfang Wu2, Jiang Li2, Li-An Xu1 and Meng Xu1 1 Co-Innovation Center for Sustainable Forestry in Southern China, Nanjing Forestry University, Nanjing, Jiangsu, China 2 Camphor Engineering Technology Research Center for State Forestry Administration, Jiangxi Academy of Forestry, Nanchang, Jiangxi, China 3 Institute of Biological Resources, Jiangxi Academy of Science, Nanchang, Jiangxi, China ABSTRACT Cinnamomum camphora, a member of the Lauraceae family, is a valuable aromatic and timber tree that is indigenous to the south of China and Japan. All parts of Cinnamomum camphora have secretory cells containing different volatile chemical compounds that are utilized as herbal medicines and essential oils. Here, we reported the complete sequencing of the chloroplast genome of Cinnamomum camphora using illumina technology. The chloroplast genome of Cinnamomum camphora is 152,570 bp in length and characterized by a relatively conserved quadripartite structure containing a large single copy region of 93,705 bp, a small single copy region of 19,093 bp and two inverted repeat (IR) regions of 19,886 bp. Overall, the genome contained 123 coding regions, of which 15 were repeated in the IR regions. An analysis of chloroplast sequence divergence revealed that the small single copy region was highly variable among the different genera in the Lauraceae family. A total of 40 repeat structures and 83 simple sequence repeats were detected in both the coding and non-coding regions. A phylogenetic analysis indicated that Calycanthus is most closely related to Lauraceae, both being members of Laurales, Submitted 7 June 2017 which forms a sister group to Magnoliids. -
Taxonomy of Brazil's National Tree: Paubrasilia Echinata (Leguminosae)
Taxonomy of Brazil’s national tree: Paubrasilia echinata (Leguminosae) Mathew Rees August 2019 School of Biological Sciences, University of Edinburgh & Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh Thesis submitted in partial fulfilment for the MSc in the Biodiversity and Taxonomy of Plants 1 Abstract Background: Paubrasilia echinata (Lam.) E. Gagnon, H. C. Lima & G. P. Lewis is the national tree of Brazil and an endangered species endemic to the Mata Atlantica. Three morphotypes are commonly identified based on the size of the folioles but it is unclear if they represent distinct taxa or a single polymorphic species. This dissertation aims at clarifying the taxonomic position of the three morphotypes and informing conservation decisions. Methods: A comprehensive morphometric study based on 74 geographically representative herbarium specimens from the entire distribution of the species was coupled with phylogenomic investigation of genotyping-by-sequencing data and multivariate ecological analyses of climate data. Results: We found that the three morphotypes do not match separately evolving lineages. Rather, P.echinata is composed of five clades that are geographically structured and two lineages show signs of ongoing gene flow. Conclusions: P. echinata is best treated as a single species composed of evolutionary and geographically distinct lineages. Morphologically diagnosable characters are missing to describe sub-species that would help inform conservation measures whilst reflecting evolutionary history. Key words: Pau Brasil, Paubrasilia echinata, species delimitation, morphometric, genotyping-by- sequencing, conservation. 2 Acknowledgements I would like to sincerely thank Edeline Gagnon for inviting me to work on this project, supervising me throughout my work and transmitting her knowledge. Her patient explanations and calm attitude when dealing with rebellious software were invaluable. -
