Nothing is out of your reach With its cobbled stone streets, period features and welcoming community spirit, Guildford is a quintessentially English town. Guildford boasts outstanding amenities including a theatre, cathedral, leisure centre, county hospital and an array of popular bars and restaurants, together with an excellent variety of both department stores and independent outlets. Just moments from your front door, you’ll find Dapdune Wharf on the River Wey. This award winning National Trust managed visitor centre tells the story of the Godalming Navigation. A historic 15 mile waterway which linked Guildford to Weybridge on the River Thames and then onto London. Of course, you can meander in the fresh air along the river at your leisure, while nearby Stoke Park is perfect for getting back to nature and packed full of activities to enjoy all year round. Results 5. ,The C NEWS Number 355 – November 2019 Village Website: www.compton-surrey.co.uk PUBLISHED BY COMPTON VILLAGE ASSOCIATION Editor: Jane Turner, Inwood House, Hog’s Back, Farnham, Surrey GU10 1HE Telephone: 01483 810789. 07763 146448. Email: [email protected] PARISH COUNCIL COMPTON PARISH COUNCIL IN THE HIGH COURT. Earlier this year, immediately before the local elections, Guildford Borough Council adopted a new Local Plan, setting out its aspirations for housing, development and other areas of local government. This plan included a proposal to build 1,800 homes on the Blackwell Farm site, much of which lies within Compton Parish and all of which is within the Metropolitan Green Belt. Compton Parish Council, after consulting through public meetings, resolved to challenge this Plan, the basis for the housing numbers, the way the inspector conducted the hearings and the manner in which it was adopted by GBC. Our advice was that the dwelling numbers (at 37% above the Council's own objective assessment of housing need) could not be justified, and the extra road traffic generated would be enormously harmful to Compton village. Our challenge, together with the challenges from two other parties, will be heard at the Law Courts in the Strand, London on Tuesday 5th, Wednesday 6th & Thursday 7th November, as a Section 113 Challenge. The hearing will be open to the public from 10.30am to 4.30pm. You are very welcome to attend and support our legal team. Mobile phones are permitted in the courtroom but you are warned that if they go off, you are liable to be in Contempt of Court so it is important to keep all devices on silent! BE ALERT! Following a recent burglary near Spiceall, it has become apparent that the perpetrators were watching the property from a car parked close by for some time before they broke in.
