Alguns s’han desembarcat al llarg del periple i d’altres m’heu fet costat fins al final, no em puc queixar, he tingut molt bons companys de viatge. Els companys d’àrea un no els tria, et venen donats per les circumstàncies i el moment, però en cas d’haver pogut escollir no hauria sabut trobar un grup millor. Des dels més propers (em refereixo a les companyes de despatx, la Margarida i la Marta, i en una segona fase a en Kp) fins a la resta de la plantilla (Maria, Mª Rosa, Pere, Pitu, Cris, Jordi, Xevi i Núria) i les incorporacions més recents (David, Judith i les dos Silvies) m’han fet sentir que formo part d’una gran família unida per la ciència, el bon humor, la comprensió i la confiança. Gràcies per la vostra amistat, no oblidar-me i fer- me sentir un membre més del vostre grup malgrat les meves anades i vingudes. Als veïns d’ecologia, en Dani, en Jordi, la Stéphi i la Rosa amics i companys amb els quals durant la primera fase de la tesi vaig tenir el plaer de compartir llargues nits de sopars, tocs, cines, jocs, viatges i excursions per alleujar l’estrès. Així com de la Gemma Vila, la nostra flamant laborant, que ha estat disponible en tot moment i eficaç al 100% en totes les tasques que li he encomanat i que ha sabut fer amb una gran diligència i paciència infinita. A la “pandilla” Medits (Elisa, Javi, Marta, Pep, Sergi, Juan, Cristina, Maria Capa, Emanuela, Óscar, Jesús, Pedro, Maria González, Rosa, Josep) i a la resta del grup de campanyes oceanogràfiques (Luís, Domènec, Pere i Eduardo) per la gran amistat que ens ha unit i totes les experiències que hem viscut plegats. PCorresponding author 1ne¨ eR.Zu« hlke): e-mail: [email protected] This study aimed to identify the e¡ects of di¡erent sieve mesh-sizes on processing time, the number of species retained, diversity measures and multivariate community analysis in the North Sea. Samples were collected at 63 sites throughout the North Sea and washed through two successive sieves, 10-mm and 5-mm mesh respectively. Processing time for whole samples 15- and 10-mm fraction) averaged 91 Æ25 min compared with 55 Æ16 min for the 10-mm mesh fraction. Altogether 40% of free-living species and 9% of attached species were recorded exclusively in the 5-mm fraction. The majority of these species were rare. Spatial gradients of species diversity and community structure were identical, independent ofthe mesh-size used. Multivariate community analysis showed no signi¢cant di¡erence between descriptions ofcommunity structure based on fauna from 10-mm or 5-mm mesh. The use ofcoarser sieving mesh would save time and money, ifthe aims ofan epibenthic survey were to describe broad patterns ofcommunity structure and relative diversity. It would be possible to process approximately 50% more samples, ifthe time saved with 10-mm mesh were allocated to additional sampling. However, ifinformation on single species is required, then sorting with the ¢ner sieve mesh will yield crucial information.

The solitary ascidian Microcosmus exasperatus Heller, 1878 has a wide global distribution and can be found in both tropical and sub-tropical waters. In the Mediterranean Sea, it is considered to be an invasive species introduced through the Suez Canal, with a restricted distribution in the eastern Mediterranean. Despite its global distribution, the environmental tolerances of this species are poorly known. We examined the effect of varying temperature and salinity on the survival of adult individuals of M. exasperatus in a laboratory setting to partially determine its environmental tolerance range. In addition, it’s global and local distribution as well as the seasonal abundance in ‘Akko Bay (northern Mediterranean coast of Israel) were examined. Field observations and laboratory experiments show that M. exasperatus is able to tolerate a temperature range of 12–30 ºC, and salinity of 37–45, but it survived poorly in salinity of 33–35 and temperatures > 32 ºC.

En total, achéganse nomes galegos para 534 especies de moluscos. A estrutura En primeiro lugar preséntase unha clasificación taxonómica que considera as clases, ordes, superfamilias e familias de moluscos. Aquí apúntase, de maneira xeral, os nomes dos moluscos que hai en cada familia. A seguir vén o corpo do documento, onde se indica, especie por especie, alén do nome científico, os nomes galegos e ingleses de cada molusco (nalgún caso, tamén, o nome xenérico para un grupo deles). Ao final inclúese unha listaxe de referencias bibliográficas que foron utilizadas para a elaboración do presente documento. Nalgunhas desas referencias recolléronse ou propuxéronse nomes galegos para os moluscos, quer xenéricos quer específicos. Outras referencias achegan nomes para os moluscos noutras linguas, que tamén foron tidos en conta. Alén diso, inclúense algunhas fontes básicas a respecto da metodoloxía e dos criterios terminolóxicos empregados. 2 Tratamento terminolóxico De modo moi resumido, traballouse nas seguintes liñas e cos seguintes criterios: En primeiro lugar, aprofundouse no acervo lingüístico galego. Biodiversity Data Journal 4: e9273. https://doi.org/10.3897/BDJ.4.e9273 Abstract Background The checklist of the ascidian fauna (Tunicata: Ascidiacea) of Greece was compiled within the framework of the Greek Taxon Information System (GTIS), an application of the LifeWatchGreece Research Infrastructure (ESFRI) aiming to produce a complete checklist of species recorded from Greece. This checklist was constructed by updating an existing one with the inclusion of recently published records. All the reported species from Greek waters were taxonomically revised and cross-checked with the Ascidiacea World Database. New information The updated checklist of the class Ascidiacea of Greece comprises 75 species, classified in 33 genera, 12 families, and 3 orders. In total, 8 species have been added to the previous species list (4 Aplousobranchia, 2 Phlebobranchia, and 2 Stolidobranchia). Aplousobranchia was the most speciose order, followed by Stolidobranchia. Most species belonged to the families Didemnidae, Polyclinidae, Pyuridae, Ascidiidae, and Styelidae; these 4 families comprise 76% of the Greek ascidian species richness. They are considered surface expression of fluid flow in the marine subsurface. Pockmarks are widespread in the aquatic environment but the understanding of their formation mechanisms, relationship with marine macro- and micro-biota and their geochemistry remains limited. Despite numerous findings of these features in Irish waters they received little attention and remain poorly studied. In this work extensive geophysical data sets collected by the Irish National Seabed Survey and its successor the INFOMAR project as well in situ sediment samples were utilized to provide baseline information on the nature of some of these features, the processes they are fuelled by and their geochemical characteristics.

Internal phylogeny and relationships between Styelidae and Pyuridae 37 were inconclusive however. In order to clarify these points we used mitochondrial and 38 nuclear sequences from 31 species of Styelidae and 25 of Pyuridae. Phylogenetic trees 39 recovered the Pyuridae as a monophyletic clade, and their genera appeared as 40 monophyletic with the exception of Pyura.

In this study, seven echinoderm species are reported for the first time from the Levantine coast of Turkey. These are, five ophiroid species; Amphipholis squamata, Amphiura chiajei, Amphiura filiformis, Ophiopsila aranea, and Ophiothrix quinquemaculata and two echinoid species; Echinocyamus pusillus and Stylocidaris affinis. Turkey is surrounded by four seas with different hydrographical characteristics and Turkish Straits System (Çanakkale Strait, Marmara Sea and İstanbul Strait) serve both as a biological corridor and barrier between the Aegean and Black Seas. The number of echinoderm species in the coasts of Turkey also varies due to the different biotic environments of these seas. There are 14 echinoderm species reported from the Black Sea, 19 species from the İstanbul Strait, 51 from the Marmara Sea, 71 from the Aegean Sea and 42 from the Levantine coasts of Turkey. Among these species, Asterias rubens, Ophiactis savignyi, Diadema setosum, and Synaptula reciprocans are alien species for the Turkish coasts. References . 104 Revision der Tonnoidea (Caenogastropoda, Gastropoda) aus dem Miozän der Paratethys und paläobiogeographische Folgerungen Zusammenfassung Die im Miozän der Paratethys vertretenen Gastropoden der Überfamilie Tonnoidea werden beschrieben und diskutiert. Insgesamt können 24 Arten nachgewiesen werden. Tonnoidea weisen generell eine ungewöhnliche weite geographische und stratigraphische Verbreitung auf, wie sie bei anderen Gastropoden unbekannt ist. Dementsprechend sind die paratethyalen Arten meist auch in der mediterranen und der atlantischen Bioprovinz vertreten. Einige Arten treten zuerst im mittleren Miozän der Paratethys auf. Insgesamt dokumentiert die Verteilung der tonnoiden Gastropoden in der Parate- thys einen starken klimatischen Einfluss.
