  • Reise Nach Bosnien Und Herzegowina

Be Inspired by Herzegovina/Day trip Explore some of Herzegovina's most beautiful and iconic sites. We depart from Sarajevo in the morning. The first stop in our journey today is in Blagaj, located some 10 km from Mostar, the capital of Herzegovina during medieval times. We will visit its main attraction, the 16th century tekke – a dervish monastery located on the source of the river Buna. Built on a rocky cliff sloping steeply down to the bank of the Neretva River, Počitelj is one of the most picture-perfect architectural ensembles in the country. Architecturally, two stages of evolution may be observed: mediaeval, and Ottoman. We take a small break and use the chance to enjoy traditional coffee in serene surroundings. We move to Kravice, for rest and relaxation. Kravice waterfalls are a real gem on the river Trebižat, and is the perfect place to kick back and enjoy the beauty that nature can offer. The brave ones can even cool off by taking a swim in the clear, cold water under the waterfalls. In the afternoon we will drive to Mostar to see and admire Stari Most, one of the most famous bridges in the world. After an organized tour of the old town, free time will be given to enjoy Mostar on your own way. In the evening hours we will return to Sarajevo. Its collapse, 427 years Islamic rule in the Balkans. • Structural Analysis for the Reconstruction Design of the Old Bridge of Mostar
Transactions on the Built Environment vol 66, © 2003 WIT Press, www.witpress.com, ISSN 1743-3509 Structural analysis for the reconstruction design of the old bridge of Mostar M. Orlando, P. Spinelli & A. Vignoli Department of Civil Engineering, University of Florence, Italy Abstract The paper presents the structural analysis performed for the reconshuction design of the Old Bridge (Stari Most) of Mostar, in Bosnia Herzegovina. The bridge survived for more than 400 years, from 1566 till 1993, when it was destroyed by shelling, during the conflict between the Muslims of Bosnia and the Croats. The design was developed in 2000 and 2001 under the supervision of an International Commission of Experts. In the paper brief historical notices and information about topographic and geotechnical surveys and material tests are first given, then results of numerical analyses are presented. The main aim of the structural analysis was the assessment of the load bearing capacity of the bridge for all load cases prescribed by present European Recommendations. Numerical analyses allowed putting into evidence the excellent structural performance of the bridge. The fist stone of the bridge was laid on June 27,2002. 1 Introduction The Old Bridge of Mostar, an arch stone bridge with a span of about 29 m over the Neretva Rwer (Figure l), will be rebuilt with the same shape and dimensions and using the same construction techniques. The bridge was designed by the Ottoman architect Mimar Hayruddin and its construction was completed in 1566. It was destroyed in November 1993 by heavy horizontal shootings from a tank positioned on the river bank downstream, during the conflict between the Muslims of Bosnia and the Croats.

  • Cultural Informations Počitelj
CULTURAL INFORMATIONS POČITELJ The historic site of Počitelj is located on the left bank of the river Neretva, on the main Mostar to Metković road, and it is to the south of Mostar. During the Middle Ages, Počitelj was considered the administrative centre and centre of governance of Dubrava župa (county), while its westernmost point gave it major strategic importance. It is believed that the fortified town along with its attendant settlements were built by Bosnia's King Stjepan Tvrtko I in 1383. The walled town of Počitelj evolved in the period from the 16th to the 18th centuries. Architecturally, the stone-constructed parts of the town are a fortified complex, in which two stages of evolution are evident: mediaeval, and Ottoman. The first recorded reference to Počitelj dates from 1444, in Charters by Kings Alfonso V and Friedrich III. In the period between 1463-1471 the town housed a Hungarian garrison. In 1471, following a brief siege, the town was conquered by the Ottomans, and remained within the Ottoman Empire until 1878. From 1782 to 1879 Počitelj was the kadiluk (area under the jurisdiction of a kadija or qadi - judge) centre and it was the headquarters of the Počitelj military district from 1713 to photo: Donatella Carlovich 1835. The significance and the town's appearance has altered during the course of its history. As far as the development of Počitelj goes, three significant periods can be distinguished: The period of the Hungarian King Matthias Corvinus during which the town had a major strategic importance (1463–1471) The period of the settlement development under the Ottoman Empire with the erection of public buildings: mosques, imaret (charitable kitchen), mekteb (Muslim primary school),, medresa (Muslim high school), hamam, baths, han (inn) and the sahat-kula (clock-tower) (1471–1698).
