The BIC was designed to provide representation for the various communities, which interact with the Building Department. The seven different commission slots are filled by a structural engineer, a licensed architect, a residential tenant, a residential builder, a residential landlord, a community based non-profit housing developer, and a member of the general public at large. The BIC appoints the Director of DBI, sets policy, hears various appeals on issues leading up to the issuance of building permits, sits as the Abatement Appeals Noelle Hanrahan – Vice-President (07/05 – 01/06) Board to hear appeals of Director’s Orders of Abatement, and provides a Residential Landlord Seat public forum through their bi-monthly meetings. Appointed by the President of the Board of Supervisors The Commission Joe Grubb The Mayor appoints four positions and the President of the Board of Residential Landlord Seat Supervisors appoints three. The second part constitutes about 90 percent of the handbook and contains names, addresses, and telephone numbers of businesses; state, county, and city government consumer protection offices; state agencies on aging; state banking authorities; state insurance regulators; state utility commissions; state vocational and rehabilitation agencies; state weights and measures offices; military commissary and exchange contacts; federal information centers; other selected federal agencies; and federal government offices that have telecommunications devices for the deaf. The handbook concludes with information on books for blind and physically handicapped persons, TDD operator services, and an index.
