SHARED HEARTS. NEW HEIGHTS. A CAMPAIGN FOR

Our current collegiate members encounter the same challenges we faced during our college years. However, the world they live in is very different, and that creates an additional set of challenges. Issues such as sexual assault, binge drinking and cyber bullying are common on many college campuses and can create a difficult environment for young women.

Sigma Kappa must make sure members have access to programming that will help address important issues, develop leadership and life skills, create more confident women, and develop a stronger sense of what it means to live a life of purpose. Likewise, Sigma Kappa must also provide critical tools that will help our alumnae members continue to advance and make positive contributions to our world.

We have identified four specific programming areas needing enhancement – Regional Leadership Conferences, Leadership Consultant Program, Member Development Programs for Collegiate and Alumnae Members, and Service Immersion Program. Increased funding in these areas will help Sigma Kappa remain competitive with other sororities, attract new members, and keep the sense of connection strong among our alumnae.

Kappa Eta, Texas Christian University Regional Leadership Conferences Sigma Kappa’s Regional Leadership Conferences (RLCs) have significantly expanded the reach of leadership development training for our members. More than 1,600 chapter officers and advisors participate annually.

Sigma Kappa recognizes that a stand-alone regional conference is not enough to generate significant change. To remain competitive and relevant, we must now go beyond the RLC weekend and create ongoing opportunities to assure what is learned at RLCs is put into practice. Continued support for chapter officers is also needed to further develop chapter action plans and execute goals.

By focusing on the RLCs, Sigma Kappa can continue to build and strengthen our leaders’ ability to make an impact not only in their chapters, but in their communities after graduation.

Online learning opportunities through Sigma Kappa’s Interactive Learning Lab (SKILLab) will be enhanced with new training modules for each officer position. Modules will focus on development of the concepts and skills that are introduced during the RLCs. These continued learning opportunities will also be available to officers and chapter members not attending RLCs.

Ongoing assessment will give a better understanding of how each individual officer is applying what she has learned. Continuing the assessment following graduation would give us the understanding of how the topics covered and skills learned at RLCs are impacting members in their first professional roles. It will also allow us to develop improved strategies for placing alumnae in local and national volunteer roles, as well as identify future staff members.

Investment: Creation of a $750,000 endowment will increase the impact of the RLCs by providing a permanent source of funding for continuing education and ongoing assessment. 2016-2017 Leadership Consultants

Leadership Consultant Program Leadership consultants are critically important to the health of our collegiate chapters.

Leadership consultants travel throughout the country, helping to implement programming for Sigma Kappa chapters, the Greek community, campus leaders and local alumnae. The target goal is for a chapter to receive at least one visit every year.

Leadership consultants help establish new chapters and visit existing chapters to facilitate leadership and officer training, guide chapters in self-assessment, conduct workshops on responsible behavior, healthy relationships and career development. Across the board, chapters have shown growth and improvement when a leadership consultant collaborates with its officers, advisors and members in strategic planning for the future.

Investment: Endowment funding of $500,000 will help us reach our goal of increasing the number of chapters served by leadership consultants by 20 percent. Funding will strengthen the training provided to leadership consultants, offer curriculum development training so they can create custom chapter programming, and provide for the development of tools to analyze the impact of consultant visits. The endowment will also permanently sustain the funding of two leadership consultant positions. Member Development Programs for Collegiate and Alumnae Members Your support of a more dynamic member development program for collegiate members will grow the next generation of women leaders. This program will be offered through peer-led chapter workshops and promote an individualized journey for members to connect life experiences to learning and practical application. The new program will prepare our members for opportunities and issues they face in their personal lives by developing skills and experiences in five core competency areas:

• Meaningful Relationships • Self-Awareness & Development • Holistic Personal Wellness • National & Global Citizenship • Career Readiness

New alumnae resources will provide opportunities for our members to Connect, Enjoy, Learn and Give. Sigma Kappa is for a lifetime and the goal is to promote continued engagement beyond the collegiate experience.

Investment: Eventually benefiting every member of Sigma Kappa, these programs require an investment of $550,000 in immediate funding and $1,100,000 in endowment funding. Immediate funding will cover program development and licensing costs, the pilot rollout, evaluation and updates, and ongoing operating costs for five years. SCHOLARSHIPS Investment: $750,000

The cost of education today is skyrocketing, and many of our young women need assistance. The average indebtedness of students graduating from colleges and universities with Sigma Kappa chapters is more than $25,000. Sigma Kappa falls far below other national sororities in scholarship funding, giving fewer and smaller scholarships to our members. Our average is $1,100 per scholarship, compared to a National Panhellenic Conference average of nearly $1,950. Funding raised for scholarships will both increase the number of scholarships given and bolster the amount of our existing scholarships to more meaningful levels.

Investment: Gifts totaling $750,000 for scholarship endowment funds will allow our sisters to put more of their time and energy into academics and personal development during their college careers.

At the 2016 convention in Chicago, we celebrated the completion of our $1 million gift to the Alzheimer’s Association for the Women’s Alzheimer’s Research Initiative. This effort fulfilled our campaign commitment to our philanthropy priority. This amazing accomplishment was completed in record time and proves that we can accomplish great things when we work together with shared hearts.

We will continue to support the search for a cure for Alzheimer’s disease through participation in local walks and our ongoing partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association.
