April 28, 2016 Fraternity and Sorority Life Celebrates Community Excellence COLUMBIA, SC, - The Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life recognized chapters and individuals for outstanding accomplishments on April 6, 2016 at the fraternity and sorority annual awards program. Chapter Achievement Awards were presented to recognize chapters for achievements in philanthropy, service, scholarship and involvement. Achievement in Scholarship These chapters achieved an overall GPA higher than the all-male/all-female GPAs for the Spring and Fall 2015 semesters, respectively. Alpha Chi Omega Gamma Phi Beta Pi Kappa Phi Alpha Delta Pi Kappa Delta Sigma Beta Rho Alpha Epsilon Pi Kappa Kappa Sigma Chi Alpha Gamma Delta Gamma Sigma Phi Epsilon Beta Theta Pi Lambda Chi Alpha Theta Chi Chi Omega Phi Gamma Delta Zeta Sigma Chi Delta Delta Delta Phi Mu Multicultural Delta Upsilon Phi Sigma Kappa Sorority, Inc. Delta Zeta Pi Beta Phi Zeta Tau Alpha Achievement in Service These chapters completed more than 35 hours of community service on average per member during 2015. Zeta Tau Alpha Achievement in Philanthropy These chapters raised more than $190/member for their respective philanthropies during 2015. Sigma Chi Phi Mu Sigma Alpha Epsilon Delta Zeta Achievement in Involvement These chapters have 85% or more of their membership involved in a student organization on campus other than their chapter. Outstanding Fraternity House Corporation Board Member-Courtney Leavitt (Sigma Alpha Epsilon) Outstanding Sorority House Corporation Board Member-Ansley Mitcham (Kappa Delta) Outstanding New Member (Large Chapter)-Ellen Maloney (Delta Delta Delta) Outstanding New Member (Small Chapter)-Carrington Murray (Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.) Outstanding Chapter President (Large Chapter)-Emily Eckert (Chi Omega) Challenge the Process Award (Small Chapter)- Zeta Sigma Chi Multicultural Sorority, Inc. Challenge the Process Award (Large Chapter)- Chi Omega Community Partnership Award- Office of Multicultural Student Affairs Two individuals recognized as the Greek Man and Woman of the Year, have excelled academically and within the Greek community by being positive role models, exuding strong character and actively participating in the positive things their chapters are doing. Greek Man of the Year-Daniel Glover (Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.) Greek Woman of the Year-Karra McCray (Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.) Additionally, the Greek Programming Board announced the winners of Greek Week, which took place March 21-March 25, 2016. Greek Week teams are composed of multiple chapters from each representative council or board on campus. Events included service and events benefiting Habitat for Humanity, a “Night at Strom,” a Multicultural Food Fest, a showing of The Hunting Ground, the annual Greek Sing competition and a social media campaign geared toward sharing the values of the fraternal organizations on campus. The title of Greek Week Champion was granted to the team Alpha Gamma Delta, Sigma Nu, and Phi Gamma Delta ____________________________________________________________________________________ The fraternity and sorority experience at the University of South Carolina engages students at a high level, with 25% of the student body affiliated with over 40 chapters. These groups are governed by Fraternity and Sorority Councils composed of representatives from each chapter to advocate the needs of its members, to commit to enhancing the benefits of membership, and to educate members and university about the organization purposes. The councils strive to lead the Greek community to exemplify the values of scholarship, leadership, service and friendship. .
