This has all the makings of "so-bad-its-good" film. Lousy lion fight. 20 minutes of wandering around. Even the swords look bent out of shape. What really does it in is there isn't one good actor in the bunch. Even a girl tied to posts looks like she'd rather be somewhere else. There are some good sword and sandle films here (click on my name for reviews) but this neither made me laugh or groan. It just sits there. Plus, Hercules never had any sons. Hercules was born when Zeus came down to impregnate a virgin, and Hercules went out into the world to conquer the problems man faced. In the end, he died for humanity in a gruesome way and went off to heaven to be with Zeus. But who would believe a story like that in this day and age? (wink) i'm looking for another sword and sandal film. let me write about the story a bit. a soldier comes home from war, and defend some poor guy in a tavern against same Roman soldiers and he goes to jail, become gladiator. when he fight first he does not kill any of them, although he had 6 type of enemy (swordman, pikeman, ect ect) thatwhy these gladiators were defending him against other soldiers. they all were punished and tortured, but a midget in the jail helps them to go free. they getting friends outside, coming back and break down the kingship. sry for my english, i hope u saw it already somewhere and can tell me where can i find it. Sorry, but I just could not let that go. Steve Reeves's Hercules movie was made in 1959. He started it all. Land of Darkness is about average in the sword and sandel genre. IMO. "..but how will we get back. " "THROUGH THE SECRET PASSAGE!" wonderful stuff. sure the dialouge wasn't THAT bad in it's original language. this film is recommended for people with sciatica and slipped discs. when the pain killers don't work, thank your gods for the sons of hercules. These works and the people involved in their creation were part of a widespread culture of sentiment. Equally alluring, Dalila contrives to strip Samson of his powers and the Israelites of their prized warrior. However, while exotic femmes fatales plotting ruination of gentrified patriarchal society populated the nineteenth-century French opera stages, they contrast sharply with an eighteenth-century model populated by merciful exotic male rulers overseeing wandering Western females and their estranged lovers. Disparities between these eighteenth and nineteenth-century archetypes, most notably in treatment and expectation of the exotic and the female, appear particularly striking given the chronological proximity within French operatic tradition. Indeed, current literature depicts these models as mutually exclusive. Yet when conceptualized as a single tradition, it is a socio-political—rather than aesthetic—revolution that provides the basis for this drastic shift from femme idéale to femme fatale.
