The plant is native from South America and is considered a noxious weed in South Africa and Australia. We provide the first concrete locality for the species in Europe, and provide data about the characteristics of the population in Caldes de Montbui and its invasive potentiality in the area. Sobre la presència d’Opuntia aurantiaca (Opuntioideae, Cactaceae) a Catalunya (nord-est de la península Ibèrica) S’aporten dades sobre la presència de l’espècie invasora Opuntia aurantiaca (Cactaceae) a Catalunya. Aquesta planta és nativa de l’Amèrica del Sud i és considerada una planta problemàtica tant a Sud-àfrica com a Austràlia. En el present treball s’indica la primera localitat concreta d’aquesta espècie a Europa. També s’aporten dades sobre les caracte- rístiques de la població documentada a Caldes de Montbui i del seu potencial invasor a la zona. Paraules clau: plantes al·lòctones; jointed cactus, regió mediterrània; espècies invasores. Introduction Many alloctonous cacti have been recorded in Europe. Among them, the genus Opuntia L., having more than 25 alien invasive species, is the most relevant (Essl & Kobler, 2008). Guàrdia region in the European context (Essl & Kobler, 2008; Lloret et al., 2005; Sanz- Elorza et al., 2004; Sobrino et al., 2002; Vilà et al., 2003). Opuntia aurantiaca (jointed cactus) is a species of cactus native from South America Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay (Moran et al., 1976; USDA-ARS, 2009). This species is considered invasive in southern Africa (Moran & An- necke, 1979), Madagascar (Allorge-Boiteau, 2002) and Australia: New South Wales (Hosking & Deighton, 1979; Hosking et al., 1988), Qeensland (Mann, 1970; Hosking et al., 1988), Victoria (Parsons & Cuthbertson, 1992). The trade of exotic plants was frequent among collectors and botanists during the nine- teenth century, thus promoting the introduction and circulation of alien plants via international shipping in various continents (Moran & Annecke, 1979). The jointed cactus was transported to England in 1824 from the West Indies (Moran et al., 1976). Then, it was introduced in South Africa, Cape Town, probably in 1843, as part of a consignment of exotic plants from England (Moran & An- necke, 1979). There are not references explaining how, during the 19th century, the jointed cactus reached Australia, where it is actually considered among the most noxious weeds (CABI, 2015). In both countries jointed cactus has been used as a garden ornamental and as a barrier plant (Moran & Annecke, 1979). However, O. aurantiaca early became an aggressive invasive, occupying those areas with an adequate climate and substrate (CABI, 2015). In South Africa and Australia, the jointed cactus extended along the desert shrub, savanna and grass- land biome, especially in overgrazed and disturbed habitats (CABI, 2015; Mann, 1970; Parsons & Cuthbertson, 1992). In both countries, the cactus continues to invade new habitats and regions (CABI, 2015) and was declared in 2012 as a “weed of National Significance” by the Australian Weed Strategy Committee (Anonymous, 2015b). Opuntia aurantiaca is a sterile hybrid of platyopuntia cacti originated in tem- perate South America, particularly Eastern Argentina and Southern Uruguay (Moran et al., 1976; Moran

    SUSSEX MOTH GROUP NEWSLETTER Page 28 SUSSEX MOTH GROUP NEWSLETTER March 2009 Notice regarding Elections at the AGM by Clare Jeffers on behalf of the committee At the indoor meeting last November the Sussex Moth Group committee talked about a proposal for formalising the election of committee members. The idea was that any committee member planning to stand down from their position should ideally make this known well in advance of the AGM, so that any upcoming 'vacancy' can be advertised to all our members in the Autumn news- letter and/or at the Winter indoor meeting. The committee supposed that advertising vacancies in this manner would give all members an equal opportunity to put themselves forward for a position on the committee and the committee proposed that, in the interests of fairness, elections would then be carried out by secret ballot - either by placing ballot papers in a box at the AGM, or by B l 'postal vote' in sealed envelope to the secretary. As it happens, our current Chairman, Sam Bayley, o x w announced at that meeting his intention to stand down at the next AGM and this fact was made o r t known to all members through the distribution of minutes from that meeting; any members willing h S to take on the position of Chairman were invited to put themselves forward. n o u t b The situation we find ourselves in now is that only one member, Steve Teale, has put themselves y G r forward for the Chairman's position and no one has expressed an interest in taking over any of the a e other positions on the committee; it therefore seems that the committee's original proposal to m e elect the officers of the committee by ballot is impractical.

Kravchenko Abstract The article reports on the quantitative description of the food web structure of the community consisting of 65 species of Lepidoptera leaf miners reared from 34 plant species, as well as 107 species of parasitoid eulophid wasps (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae). The study was conducted in the forest-steppe zone of the Middle Volga in Russia over 13 years (2000-2012). Leaf miners have been found to be highly host plant-specific. Most of them are associated with only one or two plant species and therefore the number of links between trophic levels is 73, which is close to the total number of Lepidoptera species (linkage density is 1.12).

The Nepticulidae of the Russian provinces (oblasts) Ul’yanovsk, Samara, Saratov, Volgograd, Astrakhan and Chelyabinsk and the Kalmyk Republic are listed. We record 60 species, including two only previously recorded, 28 species only on the basis of leafmines (indicated with an *). Seventeen species are recorded as new for Russia. Eleven of these are reported on the basis of adults: Stigmella glutinosae (Stainton, 1858), S. ulmiphaga (Preissecker, 1942), S. thuringiaca (Petry, 1904), S. rolandi Van Nieukerken, 1990, S. hybnerella (Hübner, 1813), Trifurcula (Trifurcula) subnitidella (Duponchel, 1843), T. (T.) silviae Van Nieukerken, 1990, T. (T.) beirnei Puplesis, 1984, T. (T.) chamaecytisi Z. & A. La√tüvka, 1994, Ectoedemia (Zimmermannia) liebwerdella Zimmermann, 1940 and Ectoedemia (Ectoedemia) caradjai (Groschke, 1944). Six species are reported on the basis of mines only: Stigmella freyella (Heyden, 1858), S. nivenburgensis (Preissecker, 1942), S. paradoxa (Frey, 1858), S. perpygmaeella (Doubleday, 1859), Ectoedemia (Ectoedemia) atricollis (Stainton, 1857) and E. spinosella (Joannis, 1908). Astigmella dissona Puplesis, 1984 is synonymised with Stigmella naturnella (Klimesch, 1936), here recorded for European Russia for the first time, bridging the gap between Far East Russia and Europe. Outside of Scotland, this species has only ever been found in two areas – the River Usk in Wales and the Wye near Hereford, where it is now thought to be extinct. As an endemic species, the UK population is of international significance. Surveys in the last 15 years have confirmed that the Northern February red is present in the Dee from Linn of Dee downstream, a number of Dee tributaries and along the River Spey.
