U hebt allen, zo neem ik aan, echter ook gemerkt dat uw passie niet door iedereen gedeeld wordt. Zelfs in natuur- beschermingskringen doen de ongewervelden vaak alleen maar op de achtergrond mee. Afgezien van enkele opvallende en breed aansprekende groepen zoals vlinders en libellen, worden in het natuurbeheer en -beleid de evertebraten nogal eens verwaarloosd. Vogels, zoogdieren, plantengemeenschappen staan vaak veel meer voor het voetlicht. Toen ik zo’n vijftien jaar geleden bij Staatsbosbeheer in dienst trad, was zich daar het denken in termen van natuurdoeltypen volop aan het ontwikkelen. Het was, zo vond men, nodig de Matthijs Schouten doelen in het natuurbeheer scherper te formuleren. Dit hing samen met een ontwikkeling die nogal kenmerkend geworden is voor het Nederlandse natuurbeheer en die nu ook in andere is in het natuurbeheer. The idea was that any committee member planning to stand down from their position should ideally make this known well in advance of the AGM, so that any upcoming 'vacancy' can be advertised to all our members in the Autumn news- letter and/or at the Winter indoor meeting. The committee supposed that advertising vacancies in this manner would give all members an equal opportunity to put themselves forward for a position on the committee and the committee proposed that, in the interests of fairness, elections would then be carried out by secret ballot - either by placing ballot papers in a box at the AGM, or by B l 'postal vote' in sealed envelope to the secretary. As it happens, our current Chairman, Sam Bayley, o x w announced at that meeting his intention to stand down at the next AGM and this fact was made o r t known to all members through the distribution of minutes from that meeting; any members willing h S to take on the position of Chairman were invited to put themselves forward. n o u t b The situation we find ourselves in now is that only one member, Steve Teale, has put themselves y G r forward for the Chairman's position and no one has expressed an interest in taking over any of the a e other positions on the committee; it therefore seems that the committee's original proposal to m e elect the officers of the committee by ballot is impractical.

Kravchenko Abstract The article reports on the quantitative description of the food web structure of the community consisting of 65 species of Lepidoptera leaf miners reared from 34 plant species, as well as 107 species of parasitoid eulophid wasps (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae). The study was conducted in the forest-steppe zone of the Middle Volga in Russia over 13 years (2000-2012). Leaf miners have been found to be highly host plant-specific. Most of them are associated with only one or two plant species and therefore the number of links between trophic levels is 73, which is close to the total number of Lepidoptera species (linkage density is 1.12).

The total number of confirmed Irish species of Lepidoptera now stands at 1480. Key words: Lepidoptera, additions, deletions, corrections, Irish list, Elachista biatomella Introduction Bond, Nash and O’Connor (2006) provided a checklist of the Irish Lepidoptera. Since its publication, many new discoveries have been made and are reported here. In addition, several deletions have been made. A concise and updated checklist is provided. The following abbreviations are used in the text: BM(NH) – The Natural History Museum, London; NMINH – National Museum of Ireland, Natural History, Dublin. The total number of confirmed Irish species now stands at 1480, an addition of 68 since Bond et al. (2006). Taxonomic arrangement As a result of recent systematic research, it has been necessary to replace the arrangement familiar to British and Irish Lepidopterists by the Fauna Europaea [FE] system used by Karsholt 60 Bulletin of the Irish Biogeographical Society No. 36 (2012) and Razowski, which is widely used in continental Europe.
